Augusta

I'll be heading down to Augusta next weekend for 4 days and got permission to pack the fishing rods. Will have our 2 year old and a friend and her 2 year old so it'll be just quick estuary flicks I think. Whats biting in the river at the moment? A feed of yellowfin whiting would be great or maybe some herring.
We're staying at Riverside Cottages so a short walk to a couple of jetties near Molloy St or les than a kilometre to Ellis St Jetty. Last fished there April 2 years ago and caught over 20 10-15cm black bream.
Would be good to have my son catch his first fish

There is always heaps off
There is always heaps off whiting infront of the shop towards the rivermouth. I always had the kids there and fished with the little tackers from behind the fence. That way I could fish and not worry about them straying in the drink.
Casting a little deeper you get the odd KG but they dont tend to reach the legal size.
Hope this helps as I havent fished there in ages.

Beware---DO NOT park your car in the two bays right by the verandah of the Colour Patch fish and chip shop because it will be covered in seagull shit in no time if someone is having a feed. One chip is all it takes
Give the landing around at Dead Finish a shot for whiting and small stuff.

Not much to report. Spent a couple hours on Ellis St jetty sunday arvo to 5:30 before the boss called me in. Picked up a nice size herring, 2 undersize skippy and a couple grunters. Bloke next to me caught a 27cm skippy on a soft plastic. Only fish of note caught that night (went back at 8:30 to see if anything was happening)

go to the jetty in augusta,
go to the jetty in augusta, off ellis street, if you look at google maps satellite view, there are 4 jettys, go to the far right one (walk under the tree cover) dont go the end of the jetty, fishing off the board walk if you understand me. Best time would be at dusk. I have spoken to locals, and when i say locals, i mean the kids, they are always fishing there, night and day, so who would know better. The whiting will take shrimp, and its the shrimp from the river. The locals, use a basket which they drop off the jetty and leave for an hour or so, and pull up and use the river shrimp as bait. Do not use coral shrimp. use running ball sinker.
Also when fishing, at night from that jetty, the car park light will come on, and shine on river, aim for that area the light hits, they tend to stay around that area. best of luck
