Beach Tailor

Hi everyone. I know that I put a lot of topics about beach and river fishing for bread and butter species, I know now mostly how to fish the river but I have not unlocked the code of tailor fishing off the beach. I have gone to Trigg 3 times in the past 2 months in the morning, one with a swell of only 1 metre, another of 2m and another of 3m. Only tailor caught over the whole time was one at the 3 metre and caught by the people next to us. I think I now need to try other beaches and places like the floreat drain or something. I have been using mostly a star sinker with ganged hooks and mulie but have also used drift baiting, reeling in the mulie like a lure, and using a lure.

so my question is what are the better beaches currently, am I doing anything wrong and is it me just picking the wrong tides and times?

lachie

My favourite Perth beach for

My favourite Perth beach for tailor is definitely Swanbourne. Walk up the beach and fish the area in front of the army barracks. Dawn or dusk.. always used to find new moon the best, nothing wrong with a star sinker with ganged hooks and mulie

Trigg

The problem with Trigg is you havent persisted ;) only 3 times in 2 months, Iusually head down 2-3 times a week and most of the time have luck with a few tailor / soapies.

persistance is the key. cant expect to catch a fish every time you head out!

hey mate your doin it right just a matter of time before you get them stick with the mullies til you get a few as the lure dont produce as concistantly as bait metro thats what i found. I like it a bit rough but have caught then when its dead calm triggs good but as you head north i think it gets better yancheps good if you get the chance to head up there im headin home from kalbarri tomorro so pm me when you get your next chance to get out for a tailor fish also.i havent fished it but hilly said swanny ive seen some good fish from that stretch defently worth a crack

 Yeah as  Callum says. you

Yeah as  Callum says. you need some some chop for them to get excited and be on the bite. Up our way we know they cruise up and down the beach so can come on anytime. I've been there 5am and the bite has started at 8am. Keep at it and you will hit tyhe jack pot and educate your self at the same time.

Floreat drain at sunset with a howling SW'rly

Fri, 2014-08-01 16:13

That is where I caught my first tailor.

Now, if they are on the beach I am fishing I normally get into a few before they move on.

Keep persisting, you will get one.

Mulies are fine, If you don't get a hit in 10mins where you are casting, walk 15-20m up the beach and cast a fresh mulie out. Repeat until you have covered enough ground to summise the fish just aren't there that session or you find them :) They won't always be there.

Cheers,

D80

Bait Mate

Tue, 2014-08-05 10:40

Pop into a tackle store and pick up some bait mate , its a twine that I use to tie mulies on keeps em on hook a little longer , also a bit of cork just above the ganged hooks keeps bait bopping around and off floor , mind you when tailor aren't biting bait on the floor is good for a ray fight(some action is better than no action)

Do you reckon if I leave

Tue, 2014-08-05 15:52

Do you reckon if I leave melville at about 5-5:30am and got to yanchep at about 6:30 would that be alright? And what part of the beach at yanchep is best? Because my family went on a day trip to see all the places like yanchep and noticed it was quite rugged.p and some spots would be hard to fish from. We went as far up to moore river and it had a nice stretch of beach but that's a bit for too go in the morning early.

correct me if im wrong. i like to go about 100 metres to the right of the lagoon.

sum nice tailor there, or turn right at the end of yanchep rd or whatever its called

chuck a left in the club cap caravan park and park up at the end

fish off the groin man that spots so unpredictable

ive heard or sambos salmon mulloway pinkies mackies tailor sharks all caught off that rock groin
