belmont boat ramp

bought a boat saturday (1st one!),too much housework to use that day!!!!!

sunday take 9yrs and 3yrs to belmont to go for a feel, solo launch/retrieve,fuel economy etc etc.freo and return for 16 litres not bad i thought 40 4 stroke yammie voyager 150.

8 knot speed limit blatantly ignored by many bream fisherman. are they exempt? you know the ones, multiple stickers etc.9 yrs saying faster daddy catch them!

anyway never solo launch and retrieve at belmont boat ramp on a sunday!!!!!!!!!! especially first time ever!!!!! all good no tears or damage just held up a couple of patient people, sorry!

Unfortunately you'll see far

Unfortunately you'll see far too many boats exceeding the eight knot limit.  on a sunday during the summer be aware of the eight knot limit around Belmont Race Course (opposite maylands yacht club)  the DoT guys were pinging boats just up river from Windan Bridge a week or so ago on a sunday morning.  Its a trap there as any other day of the year it is open speed limit.  they reduce it for the sailing days.  I would try Maylands boat  ramp if you live in that area.  the parking is great, its free, there are two ramps as well as small jetties either side.  five knot limit applies until you get to the ski area downriver (the first navigation markers).  probably less busy than belmont and with the other ramp the impatient ones at least have another option!

Enjoy the boat.  My first power boat was a 4.2 metre tinnie.  did lots of miles and lots of variety.  crabbing, fishing, donuting, skyshow, and lots more in lots of different places, the kids will love it!

Abernerthy Rd ramp

Tue, 2012-02-07 06:59

Another one to try if you are on the south side is the ramp on Great Eastern hwy opposite Abernerthy Road.  It has no finger jetties and only 6 or so trailer bays.  Its in a fairly quiet, speed restricted corner of the river so you dont have the ski boat hassles of belmont.  Because its small, has no finger jetties and little trailer parking it is quite often empty. Gives me the shits because they redeveloped it only a few years ago and could have done it properly.  But it has a $10,000 musical toilet!

Dont worry about the solo launch issue. Everyone who launches solo faces it, if it bothers them that much, they could try helping!

Bream Classic

Cheers Liam.

Still pretty sure the Bream Classic organisers dont get an exemption from DOT to break speed limits or marine saftey rules:D

 funny you mention the

funny you mention the speeding etc.

I flew into perth on sunday and as we approached before landing I was watching a boat planing up the river (Upper swan I think) on the wrong side and you could see from the wakes all boats heading downstream swinging out to the wrong side as he didnt yield, just hugged the bank at about 15-20 knots.

He obviously was adamant he was on the correct side and the 3 other boats were not...

thanks everyone. i just used belmont as i was familiar with its location and ease of access off the freeway. it was hard to know what speed to follow as it just wasnt bream hunters exceeding. gps showed 8 knts and overtaken by countless others. dont be surprised if 5knts is introduced all parts guys.

depends on what time you were

Wed, 2012-02-08 07:05

depends on what time you were in the water mate?

from the end of the ski area around to farmer bridge is only 8knts from 10am to 5pm on sundays and within a certain few months of the year as well from memory, check put the signs when there next and read the small writing at the bottom.

up river from the belmont ski area is 5knts and has been for a while now, i found out the hard way, while doing 8knts around near the boat building yard, i have spent all my life on the river and just did not pay any attention to the new 5knt signs.

was let off with a warning so all good.

cheers
