Best lures for the north west

Hi guys, as some of you may or not know im heading up to Broome for two weeks in June next year. Ill be chasing pretty much all the fish available up there, but specificaly some big spaniads and trevs. I was just wondering what some of the best lures to use in the north west are? Whether it be poppers, stickbaits, minnows, soft plactics... everything. Bare in mind that we'll be doing a fair bit of trolling around as well casting. I'v already starting stocking up on a few bits and pieces but ill be very interested to hear what you guys have to say.

Thanks in advance guys!! You havnt let me down thus far :)

If you want Spaniards

it's hard to go past Halco Laser Pro 190 DD. Chrome pink or King Brown being my fav colours but if you have a selection just try a few to find the best on the day.  We've also had good success with Halco Tremblers, Classic Bluewater F-18 and Rapala X-raps.

I'd also have at least 1 skirt out the back too, there is always the chance of finding a Sailfish or 2 while trolling around off Broome. I'd recommend Richters, Soft Grassys and Oscars.

Richter Soft Grassy for sure.

Richter Soft Grassy for sure. Maybe some Spanyid Raiders for casting metals. I really hate Laster Pro crazy deeps, for a deeper lures go the rapala x-rap, its much more reliable and not a lot more money. I found most everything in Exmouth liked the McArthy Baits Finesse Minnow in Pearl 5" too.

the crazy deeps arn't that great, too much drag on the rod. That's why we stick to the DD models.

Big spaniards, go the Halco 160XDD, X-Rap 30 and a mid diver like Halco 190DD. Preferred colours are blue/chrome-green/gold & red head etc For trevs, Sunset lead head jigs work well up there on bottom fish, mackys normally hanging around in the same area so jig them close to the bottom and mix it up with winding them up fast from the bottom works well. Use Superflex single strand wire in the 88lb to avoid bite offs.

If your in the shallower water/less macs then the McArthy SP are great, bigger the better. Sailfish etc, the Richter skirted lures are great (we sell em rigged) and they catch nearly everything that swims, a good range to have including hi speed macky lures for when your heading out to your spots. Tuna wise, casting stickbaits like the Maria bluecode 90mm are awesome. Cast them into the mac tuna schools is the go, let sink a bit then wind fast. Often cobia/brassys/macs hang in the same area so also try sinking them down and retreiving back fast. Often under baitfish is a lump or good ground so use your leadhead jig as mentioned and drop it down for other species.

poppers

If your throwing around in the shallows of Gantheaume & Roebuck Bay the Halco Roosta 105 is ideal and so the small Richter 1-2oz plugs. For out deeper around the bait schools the Richter Plugs as mentioned wound fast is the go.

Pack some white lead head

Pack some white lead head jigs too, you never know when you might need them and they work pretty bloody good on most fish.

Cheers

Dale
