Buying stuff on here(no morals)

Just to give everyone a heads up on protocol on here.......

saying "You will take it" means nothing on here.....because people dont respect pecking order.

If you want something....ring and go and get it before anyone else does......because people will happily jump in front of you....even though you have said you will take it...

i lived in nz for 22 years and in that situation........the first person ... has first dibs ....followed by whoever is next(if that person doesnt show).........i thought that was how it works here but obviuosly not because this is the second time someone has done this to me..............cash talks ...full stop.

so if you want something...it doesnt matter if anyone else has said they want it.....just ring the dood...get his address quickly and get your arse around there with the cash before anyone else does.........just be selfish....who cares right?

Then the dood removes the post...so people cant see that i said   "i would take it."( i was first to post)......plus 3 pms i sent him.........SUCKS.

End of rant.

Happens both way

Fri, 2016-12-23 16:28

Havent bought/sold from this site, but plenty off Gumtree. Happens both ways. People say they'll buy but can you hold for x hours only to never show up. When someone else is there with the cash and turned up immediately, you've got to take it.

i'll let interested parties know once something is sold so they don't waste time.

But yeah, I agree with you that it sucks when you rock up at someone's house to be told then - not very polite

sticky subject

Fri, 2016-12-23 17:17

It is always a sticky subject thats been debated many times here.
I hear what your saying Jon for sure and all the buys and sells Ive done here have been flawless.

I have no idea whatsoever of your circumstance but would like to add

  • Just because someone says "I will take it" doesnt mean its a deal. There are other factors, such as history of the person saying it or lack of any profile on the site.
  • Can also be the situation that someone else PM's but doesnt post, or knows the seller and rings instead, as many of us who know each other here do.
  • At the end of the day if Im selling something, I'll sell it to who I want, know of or trust especially if its complicated by postage etc (as it always is for us who dont live in Perth)
  • Maybe fill in your profile so people can easily see who you are and where you live-thats the FIRST thing I look at when buying or selling on here and a blank definitely isnt a good start
  • Your right, cash does talk, and people who bargain hard for cars, boats etc etc then when its settled say "just gotta ask the missus/apply to the bank/sell my lowered fake HSV V6 Commodore/can I pay $10 a week?" first are a PIA
  • When people join, then their 1st post is a "sell", Im sus immediately.
  • Doubly so if after being challenged, they post "nice fish mate" on a few different photos to get a post count!

Of course it is a bit low to agree then reneg without  good reason.

I agree Rob, perhaps some parts of the user profile should be required fields. It's not that hard and often gives more relevance to your posts when people know your llocation, (approx)age etc.

if you only ever contribute to the buy & sell forum then maybe you'll get pipped at the post if someone more "familiar" comes along....

Yep too many people these days preperared to fuck you around and make you wait all day if they do indeed show up at all.

I had a guy from FB want to buy my sounder and said he couldn't make it until the weekend. He offered to transfer the full amount but I said a 'goodwill' deposit of $20 would be fine which he did and then turned up on the weekend as arranged. I'll be taking this approach from now on.

Fri, 2016-12-23 18:47

Understand fully what you mean. I have only sold a couple items on the internet. 1 item on this site  and 1 item on gumtree. With the gumtree ad I accepted an offer well below the advertised price because the buyer supplied a link for a refurbished item that was lower priced. Soon afterwards I received an offer at my higher "sticker price" but I refused it due to having already verbally accepted previous offer.

On the other occasion I was offered well ABOVE the asking price of an item I listed on this site. I PM'd this member and sold the item at my lesser asking price. (I beat him down on price LOL!)

Dishonest members

Sat, 2016-12-24 04:17

At least you didn't get scammed for Xmas. I recently tried to by poppers and stickbaits on here for $800 and the guy never sent the items even after being paid straight away using PayPal! He promised to send them on two occasions! after trying my hardest to contact him for a week to obtain tracking info I had no option but to lodge a PayPal case. As soon as the case was opened he got in touch with me within 30 mins and promised to post items again and asked me to close the case before doing so. Lures never showed up so lucky for me I used PayPal.

When you take somebody's hard earned money then you really need to honour your deal! It's not that hard.

Rob H, stevo81, I don't think profiles mean anything. The member in question has his profiled filled in so it doesn't make him any more honest.

And Weapon, therein lays a problem also.
If that is what actually happened you should be naming this person, so that those of us who are long on here know about this shit.
If he filled in his profile, you should have been able to make a judgement on whether it was worth driving over to collect or if he was a new member who lived interstate selling $800 of lures, well thats alarm bells immediately for me.

Keep quiet, and it happens again and again.
Buy and Sell here it would seem is pretty good because many of us know each other.
Some newby's get shirty when they are questioned about how come for example they were also selling a new HDS10 that they "won in a raffle" last week and the week before a new NSS10 "unwanted gift from a mate" and so on before that. It did happen, about a year back.

and "happy to post interstate" as they are in Sydney.

Thats just how it works here.

Generally its the dodgy ones or the thin skinned that get upset with the questioning.

He knew i wanted the lures ASAP to avoid xmas delays and Paypal was the instant payment method. Good to hear that you got your gear but i am more than happy to never ever deal with him again. When you need to get a third party involved to recover your money then you know you have a problem.

never...ever.....never close a ebay or paypal case before actually getting the item or refund. dodgy buyers will say "close the case and I will send them"

once you close the case that's the end of it, seller doesn't need to send them....no refund ....not covered and "usually" you can not reopen the case.

Nothing but praise for those who I have brought things off on this site.
Latest one was some etec oil, had to wait 3 weeks before I could get down to Perth but there it was waiting for me and a chance to put another face to a name, [had to keep missus and big sister waiting in the car while we chatted].
He had another offer on the goods but stood by his word on first in first served which I think shows the calibre of the person, a man is only as good as his word!

All dealings I have had with Fishwrecked members have been great. A geat bunch of guys always happy to help out and provide advice or point you in the right direction without wanting anything in return. Unfortunately there are a few undesirables that creep into any group that wreck it for everybody. Name and shame or report it to an admin. Lets make it a happy place for all.

King Jon is King

Sat, 2016-12-24 09:54

Sorry but I must agree with King on this one , no disrespect to others opinion's.

What I always go by and what I always brought my kids up with , is you cant change others behaviours' , only your own.

Maybe I have been lucky but the few things I have given away , or sold too members on here ,have gone well, I will talk to them , work out a plan , either hold it for them ,or something.

Gav 475 is spot on , always conduct yourself with some pride and honour, let others do as they will, yes rip offs and dic...ds are out there , but why not be the bigger man yourself and stick to a deal.
I have had a couple of run ins with others out of the quokka etc , and yes its annoying , but life's too short for me to become a paranoid , untrusting individual.
That doesn't mean be naïve, and you still have to use some caution around financial thing's , merry Xmas to all fish wreck members , except the one that maybe shafted King Jon, haha.

Sat, 2016-12-24 12:49

Unfortunately not every site member is legit, I purchased a Navionics card from a seller here.

All that arrived was the card carrier , no card

Rang him and he insisted it worked this way in his boat

I explained and sent photo's showing what was missing , no success.

Could not chase any further as he from East coast.

Buyer beware !

Merry Xmas to all and lets hope this wind pisses off soon

Sat, 2016-12-24 14:52

Bought and sold on here many times before with no issues. I did check this members' profile before I bought his lures so didn't think It would be like this. Let's just say I am lucky I paid with PayPal because if I paid with bank transfer I would have had very little chance to get it back.

Don't want to name and shame because I'm not sure of fiswrecked protocol and plus it would not be hard to work out who this member is.

I'm from the east coast and have many members who could provide good trade references if there was such an option on here. So those east coast stereotypes are probably a stretch but I get what some of you guys are saying. At the end of the day it's how you have been brought up that's more the issue.

 Hi Weapon

Sorry I wasnt inferring that all East coasters are dodgy or anything

It just makes it hard when the goods arrive by freight rather than collecting in person and being able to inspect the goods before you pay.

All good with FW members

Sat, 2016-12-24 17:22

I've had the pleasure of having positive dealings with members on here, and never am issue whether I'm buying or selling.

If I'm selling something and a member asks me to hold it until he/she has time to come pick it up etc, then no probs with me.  First in, best dressed, even if he/she wants me hold it for 1-2 weeks.  This is based on the activeness of the member.  If people like sea-kem, jackfrost80, dale, meglodon, gillyL, vinesh87 etc (regular active members) asks me hold something, then I am more than happy to hold the item for as long as they want.   But if a member has very very low post count with only posts in buy/sell, then the maximum I will hold is 2 days.

Gumtree is a completely different story....!!

A big thank you to all those members who have bought from me and whom I've bought stuff off.  Real pleasure dealing with you.

I have only bought one thing

Sat, 2016-12-24 17:44

I have only bought one thing on here and gave away one thing and both times it was a faultless transaction.

If I tell someone I will do something then I will do it and I expect the same in return with good communication the key.

There is however always going to be the odd dick that doesn't give a toss about anyone but themselves and I don't waste time with them.

You usually can tell what sort of person they are after one or two messages.

I have been burnt in the past from bad buys on gumtree and ebay however it's a minority and those people will have their day. The lies some people tell you

Each time I deal with someone new I treat them the same way I like to be treated and 9 times out of 10 they turn out to be what I like to call "Normal" people

There are a lot more good honest people than bad, you just hear more about the bad most of the time.

Merry Christmas everyone

Waiting can be hard too

Sat, 2016-12-24 18:21

I had a small sounder for sale, guy works away, said he would take it. I waited, wasn't rushed about getting paid and thought I would wait for him. Finally got contacted when he was on his way in on the flight, seemed urgent that he gets it, wanted the address. I said wait until you are on your way and I'll give my address as i don't like to give it out frivolously. He messaged me the next day saying he was on his way soonish, I gave the address and he hasn't shown after a week.

In the mean time I have not been able to move forward with someone else that expressed interest and I still have the sounder for sale.

So as far as I know, it works both ways, sellers and buyers can be less than up front when it comes to deals. You either deal with it or pay retail at the shop I guess.

P.S. As a side note, I have sold some other items, got the money in my account and the goods are still in my garage waiting for pickup! Yes - you know who you are!!! ha ha.

info

Mon, 2016-12-26 02:07

when i saw the ad....there had been no replies....so i said "I will take it" and then sent 3 pms.......with all my details including mobile.....

In the morning i sent a text asking for the address so i could come and pick up...........he sent me back a text saying it had all sold.........To be fair it was cheap.....so probably the vultures circled quickly lol.

Maybe .....he hadnt checked back on here...I dont know........My son had his eye on  that lot...so i got a bit irritated by that  and i sent a text back and  pm to him....never heard a thing and then the ad was removed quick......those are all the facts and yes.......In hindsight...I suppose he did not agree on the sale with me ...and he also could have sold the night he posted the ad......or someone ran ahead of me and didnt give a shit.......there are many possibilities ......so like i said.....I dont have enough facts to warrant a grudge but i really opened a can of worms on here !

Interesting comments.

It's just a shame that this

Mon, 2016-12-26 17:19

It's just a shame that this shit goes on, I went on faith buying a Stella of a SA member a few months back and told him of my concerns about sending cash with no product in hand. He told me he had done deals with other members on the site and that I could verify with them if needed to, gave me his number to verify him etc and all was good. I remeber a long time member doing the shitty selling to someone else once the deal had been done thing a couple of years back, it's in all levels of memebership. Just try and do your homework on who you're buying from and have good ethics when selling, it isn't that hard. I'll name and shame if I ever get shafted.

Face to face or shop

Mon, 2016-12-26 23:27

There is nothing like face to face or a shop......so you can check over the item before you buy....one persons definition of mint can be very different to anothers.....

I bought a stella sw 10,000 off a dood on e bay usa a long while ago........I asked the neccessary questions before purchase but.....he said it was mint but it wasnt....its had some chips on the body and the drag was stuffed because he had probably locked it up on something and cooked the washers..........i got it fixed but it cost me a few bob..........Plus i got hit with import duty then....I was in nz at that time and they screw you ...even for second hand stellas..........Good thing here.....is you can import up to 1,000 without import tax.

A lot of people like to import stuff from overseas because they can get it cheaper but if you have warranty issues....life gets difficult.......Personally.....I think you are better to buy local(it might cost a little more)......because you can run the warranty on the shop....should you get any issues..........

second hand stuff by mail can be dodgey sometimes....its certainly more risky but i am a member of the fishing forum nz as well.......have been on that for years and been on here a while too and have never been stung by anyone.....Shows most fishos are good doods.

If the goods were sold......why did you not post on here that they were gone?...I was first to reply to your ad.

I sent you 3 pms the night before and heard nothing.......then sent you a text the next day and yes you said they were gone sorry but i think i deserved more than a "sold sorry".........you were being rude dood.....

As you can see from my above posts...I gave you the benefit of the doubt and did not hold a grudge but there was no reason not to put up sold on your blog here or to reply to my pms....you didnt reply at all..........bloody  rude.

Good on you for donating the money......not so good for being ignorant.

I've never had an issue with holding stuffs for a couple of days from the blokes on here.  Most if not all have been pretty spot on with what's been agreed on prior like collection dates.

Great Site

Local pick up... brought and sold here many times and everyone I have dealt with has been great. Anything interstate well I would rather eBay it to make sure.

As a buyer you need to make sure you can make easy for the seller and pick it up straightaway. As a seller if someone says they want it and will get it in a week or two then I would decline or make it CLEAR if noone has brought it by then sure.

I tried to sell a heap of poppers and stick baits some time ago.. a heap of low ball offers that I wasn't prepared to take the haircut on so just eBayed them and got the price I was comfortable. It was good to offer member here 1st Choice though. Gumtree is f..cked, people sms all times of night and then no show or turn up 4 hrs late.

Have brought a couple of stellas here and JM rods, good gear comes up. Good site, very informative and good buying!
