esperance from 2 weeks ago

day 1) we got to the pink lake caravan park around 1 we were already to unpack the stuff and get the boat on the water to go and have a look around. soon as were we unpacking stuff my dad seen some stuff leakin from the car so we popped the bonnet up and there was a huge hole in our one of our hoses we were surprised that we did'"nt break down. so after we unpacked we shot of to repco in my aunty's car when we got back my dad fixed it in about 20 minutes. so now we were ready to go.

we got to the baot ramp around 3, once the boat was in we headed of, once we got out of bandy creek boat harbour and we were headin for the island at first it was a bit spooky because the water wasant that deep but very dark blue after drivin around the closest islands for a bit my dad asked me if i wanted to troll a lure. so i did 10 minutes later i got a hit so i wound it in and it was a 70cm snook winding these things in is like having a leaf on the end of your line. so after that we decided to bottom bounce after we got nothin so we headed back home.

day 2) got up at 4 in the morning ready to head deep, an hour later we were 40km off the coast goin past some big island so if you juresic park these island are for you. finally after an hour and half of driving around we decided to bottom bounce it was about 40-50meters of water first dropped a had some massive bites but nothin for an hour so we decided to go some where else. after tryin 4 spots wid no luck we anchored next to a reef. first drop i hook something got it to the top and it was a wrass we were so happy not!!!. so after catchin slimy cod and wrass i got boored so i chucked on a lead head marabu jig first drop just jigging the jig around a little bit untill it felt like a big bit of sea weed on the end of my line. so i kept on windin and finaly got it to the top and it was a big cuttle fish it was my first and the first thing on my marabu jig.

after the cuttle fish i caught we headed in more closer to one of these other island. here we were shelted from 30 knot winds. after 10min of burlying up there was tons of sweep, herring and skippy all around the back off the boat me my brother and dad were castin unweghted squid tenticles on a little bait holder hook and windin in fast and we would get herring mainly but we got a few sweep and skippy. but my aunty decided to stay on the bottom she god some little bites so she set the hook in the fish wasant much of a fighter  tho but once to the top it was a western devil fish one of the prettiest fish ever. after that we had enough of the herring so we decided to fish the bottom. it didnt take long untill i got a massive bite now this thing was fighting once to the top it was a flat head this flathead was red had a skinny mouth and was 70cm the strangest flathead ive ever seen.

once back at the boat ramp there was a few blokes at the cleaning table we had a look in the esky and bucket and asked them how many fish they got and said they got 4 BB,3harliqiun and 40 nannagai and swallow tail u could see the amount of swallow tail and nannagai they got from all the fillets they had. there were 4 of them fishing and 2or3 would of been enough for each bloke but not 40 every day they were sayin they get.

day 3) decided to head to the beach for a quick fish once we were there i started throwing around a little gold slice after awhile it got booring catching herring again so headed back home and just sleeped for the rest of the day.

day 4) it was blowing gale could not go out in the boat because it was so windy so i headed to the jetty first cast with squid jig got the biggest squid i hav ever caught once up put it on the fish measure and from the back of the squid to candles it went 91cm it was a jaw dropper the eyes were nearly bigger than a golf ball after that had enough of the wind so headed back. once back we looked at the weather it was supposed to be good the next day so now i was excited.

day 5) woke up at 4 again this time we were headed 50kms of the coast todays swell was atleast a 4 meter swell so we knew it was tuna time so chucked out my nills master lure half way around the reef had a huge hit my line was peeling of my spool this thing just had one big run it then was just dead weight and a few head shakes after winding in for about 10 minutes the fish got to the boat it was souther blue fin tuna once in i weighed it and it was 12-13lb so we chucked him in the ice box. an hour of trolling and catchin leaves (snook) we decided to drift some good ground it didnt take long untill my aunty hooked something good this thing was a fighter once to the boat it was a skippy it went 50cm so we chucked him/her in the ice box. it did'nt take long untill i had a few good bites so i set the hooks in this one all of a sudden my 20lb fins braid on my stradic 4000 stated to peel off so quick after my reel was just about nearly 8kilos of drag finnaly it gave up i thought it was another tuna because of the big run and then stoped but no once to the boat it was a huge skippy once in the boat i weighed it and it weighed 7 kilo  i was so lucky i did not get spooled.

after that day we ended up with 2 skippy,1 harliquin,2nannagui,1BBand 1 tuna

day 6) we decided we had, had enough of the wind so we headed home

Sounds like you had a good trip even with the wind cranking up most days.

The strange flathead sounds like a seargent baker, top bait but too many bones to consider eating material

i was about to mention that. that one would be maybe 2kg. a 7kg skippy is substantially larger ;) nonetheless, still a very good skippy!

it might of been  sargent

Sat, 2011-01-22 16:20

it might of been  sargent baker but it did not have long fins like a baker we ate it and tasted like a flathead and had hardley eney bones in it and once dead it went brown
