Fishing with FW members?
Ok so im going to throw this out there, ive noticed quite a few of you fish together well and have a good time.
Myself after a bit of hesitation have started inviting again, the first bad exeperience from a fw member and i vowed to never bother again (who doesnt seem to frequant the site anymore). So after a while i tryed again and the trip out was fine took a member out in the swan and we cleaned up on choppers at almost a fish a cast and trolling for no longer than 1o mins a time before a hit, good times. Recently i took another member out and i managed a nice macky off south side of rotto after a lengthy time on the water but didnt manage to produce one for my fellow fisher, to be honest i was quite disappointeted especially since we did have a double hook up and i put it down to my slight driver error the secound fish was lost. Tomorrow the plan is for another fw member fish and im kind of giving him free reign ( well atleast for half the days fish and obviously disccusions and plans will be plotted to produce something memorable along the way hopefully) Wish me luck ppl im going to keep trying, im no fishing guru but i do produce good fish on regular occasions and am hoping to share it with a few less fortunate as long as they are willing to chuck in for fuel and can handle a boat well enough.
jmo and any thoughts on theses matters are appreciated, i can tolerate so much and dont want to give up on trying to get more people out deep/to the fads/deep dropping (when i figure it out myself), chasing salmon/tailor offshore, sambos and kings deep or shallow, kg's, squid big skippy, trying to get into demersal jigging and the list goes on.
Cheers

small trips first to get an idea if you can spend hours in a boat with them.
last thing you want , is to be heading out wide , and realise they're a peanut, before you're half way to rotto.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Same boat
Righteo I have found myself in the same boat. I have put a couple of posts up offering a deckie spot only to be bombarded with stupid and irrelevant questions so I have shied away from it a bit recently. I to am no expert but have experienced success on nearly all types of fishing on a fairly regular basis. My misses is normally my main decky but due to us being in the middle of IVF she is unable to go. I just brought myself a demersal jigging outfit and would enjoy discovering the highs and lows of this type of fishing with like minded people. I suppose I will give posting one more go otherwise I will just head out on my own with my other deckie ( my bull terrier ) my boat is not huge but my carribean reef runner ( hardtop ) 150 yami 4 stroke ,furuno 585 1 kw train hds8 chart plotter electric winch , outriggers is set up for most types of fishing and fishes 3 people fairly comfortably, I'm sure if i persist I will find some quality deckies maybe even a mate or two soon.

Ditto for me as well
Oh and good luck to Dirt and the better half. Fingers crossed!
Had some good and some bloody aweful experiences (the latter oddly with people who no longer seem to frequent the site so perhaps that is a good omen) but because of the poor ones I tend to shy away of recent times and fish by myself. This is no where near as much fun as sharing with someone but, oddly and probably as I tend to be more persistent when alone, I catch more and much larger fish and regularly just explore new and what often looks like unopromising territory with good results.
Finding a fisho you really relate to with similar or complimentary techniques and a good sense of humour is the key.
Or perhaps I am getting grumpy in my old age :-)

other perspective
I've barely fished from anything larger than a dhingy, and although i've been around boats a fair bit im not 100% confident that i could jump in someone's boat and do everything right the first time as far as deckie duties go (launching and retrieving the boat etc).
so although im dead keen when i see 'deckie spot available' on here i haven't yet put my hand up, guess i dont want to potentially make a fool of myself and get a bad reputation!
i've launched, retrieved and fished from a dhingy plenty of times. I have my recreational skippers ticket. would probably only take one or two trips to be confident to put my hand up every time.
hey, maybe u boat owners could start a thread on 'what makes/what is expected of a good deckie", eg. contribution to fuel costs and basic skills etc?

Well said Versus.
I am in the same situation & am a bit worried about being one of those "peanuts".
I wouldn't know if my gear was "bling" enough or whether I'd get laughed off the boat.
Cost is another thing, I would be happy to pay my share, but a rough idea before hand would be great. Wouldn't want to appear financialy embarrassed at the ramp.

Versus, i dont think any skipper would expect any deckies to do 'everything right'
Trust me some of the deckies I've been fishing with for years still struggle at times.
Having been up to the Fishwrecked fishing comp in exmouth for the past 3 years, got to meet quite a few of the people on this site, and many i would take out for a fish anytime.
For me, one of the hardest is sea sickness. Last thing you want to do is take someone out who gets sea sick.... it's a large cost generally for a day on the water, only to have to turn back if someone is violently sea sick. I do tell all who step foot on my boat, you get sea sick.... bad luck :) but the guilt gets the better of me after a while.
I like most others who have commented wouldnt say im an expert fisherman, or able to put people onto fish EVERYTIME, but generally find fish where ever we go. I tend to look around a lot, not just flog current spots, always fishing new ground!

ive only been on a boat once besides charters and wouldnt have a clue how to launch retrieve and sure as hell cant reverse a trailer hahah more than keen to learn and yeh an idea of cost before the day is handy i know i dont get seasick 5 days on the leeuwin in a storm confirmed that hahaha (saying that i probably would get sick next time now)

I havnt been brave enough to reverse a trailer yet, but im all good with the launch on the ramp! Im with scott, its good to have everything sorted (cost wise) say, the day before, so you can get out and prepare. Servo food/drinks are expensive! haha. I just love being on the boat, regardless of if i catch or not. Im always keen to head out to!

asked me to buy stuff off
asked me to buy stuff off ebay for him beacuse he didnt have an account, never paid me back and made half assed comments he was broke and was going to as soon as possible.
why would you get someone to buy something for you if you couldnt afford to pay it back?
secondly i took him and a mate out on the boat, fuel/bait costs worked out to $50 a piece we did go to the derwent/fads so wasnt a small trip, his friend offered me $100 and i said nah mate its only $50 each so he handed this fw member/his mate the $100 who then handed me $50, not the total $100 owed between them, basicly he charged his mate $50 for me to take him fishing and didnt pay me that $50 but his mate did pay me the $50, total loser. thirdly i lent him an esky to take the fish home, and it hasnt been returned, took along time for any response from him and by that time all i could muster was a go f$%k yaself, keep it if you need it you tight ass prick and went out and bought myself a new kick ass xtreme cooler, cheers again dave.
long story sc104 but that basicly what happened.

I have to admit I've been
I have to admit I've been thinking for a some time of posting asking you guys if anyone is willing to take someone out but hesitated thinking if it was a bit rude to do so etc.
I love my fishing but due to not having my own boat (due to affordability and storage) or my mates boat being only suitable for river bashing most of my fishing is limited to the river or shore bashing. I have all my own gear and would be more than willing to pay my own way with fuel, bait etc so there would never be a problem there and I have met a few of the guys off here up in Exmouth last year namely Abeldog and Hoooked and I'm sure they'd be able to vouch that I'm normal well as far as I know anyway...haha
I just really appreciate getting offshore when I do as the opportunities don't come about very often so I make the most of them.
If anyone is willing to give me go please let me know

No probs
Been out with a dozen or more members and taken probably that many or more, cant say ive ever had any problems. Then again im a pretty easy going fisher and not much phases me. The only thing i really dont like is high expectations, as i try as hard as i can to get fish, somedays it just doesn't happen and theres nothing that can be done. Even then, a few beers fixes that.

i can see the probs people have. as there are so many types of people we wont all get along.

As mentioned , as long as the other partie doesnt expect everything to go well with fish biting most times shouldnt be a prob as we all have the same passion but sometimes personallities will clash.

I have taken a couple people
I have taken a couple people out with mixed feelings....
I have made a couple good friends out of it, and to be honest plan to fish with them for long time comming. THOUGH i have met some wierdos put it that way.Sea sickness is a problem i have had to turn back twice after reeaching 20 + nm out.
I understand everyones cash issues for the deckies comming onto the boat. But when i demercal fish i spend alot less then let say a FAD trip (obviously)....the point im trying to say is regualary my plans go to shit and i re think them. A perfect example is head to rotto for a dermcal bash, weather is far better then forcasted and hit up the fads or deep water stuff. Guys dont take this personally, but to be honest i wouldnt take some one out if they didnt have flexibility with cash. Days to get out wide can be few and far inbetween.
!
But to be honest i have ZERO fishing buddies and i have had to meet deckies through this. Ones became quite a regular, and eric i havnt forgotten about you either

I have a boat (searay 230
I have a boat (searay 230 bowrider) so not ideal for fishing (bought before I got into fishing), and pretty limited unless conditions are good and having said that I am a beginner and would not have a clue where to fish anyway!
It would be great to meet some people who could take me out on the water and give me a bit of guidance. I have a bit of boating experience, so not entirely useless and would be happy to pay (upfront!) more than my fair share for fuel/bait etc in exchange for a bit of advice. Feel free to PM me. I've done a few charters bottom fishing and some sport fishing up in Exmouth, which has been great fun, but never feel I learn that much. Sad to hear stories like righteos, that's very poor form.

This is a good topic to bring
This is a good topic to bring up Righteo, have also been checking out deckie spot etc as i'm without a boat but hesitant as i dont want to fall under the title Peanut! Have a good understanding of fishing knots, tackle and techniques and always have my ears open to learn more from those who wish to share. Most importantly love fishing, even when not catching anything just being on the water is enough. No skippers ticket YET but have driven boats and understand the ins and outs. Can confidently reverse trailers.
Work away 2:1 as heavy diesel mechanic and would love the chance to get on a FW members boat at some point and see what the deeper water has to offer. New to WA and working away makes it hard to meet many fishing buddies/mates. Easy going bloke, enjoy a good laugh, having a few beers and catching fish :)
Updated my profile with my gear and other relevant info. No issues throwing in cash for lunch, fuel etc.
If anything comes up let me know though PM and il see if i'm home on R&R. Righteo if you go in search of some big dhuies or Sambo and need a deckie i'm in!
Cheers fellas sorry for the Hijack :)

FW Deckies
Personally, I have had nothing but good experiences. FW has been a great way to meet like minded fishos and from there some pretty strong friendships have been formed. I've lost count of how many FW deckies I have taken out over the years but it would be up there, thats for sure. In fact some have been so good they became regular deckies for me (we miss you Shamu) and all are welcome back on board at any time there is a spare spot.
The best tips I can give skippers considering taking out deckies from the forum is to post up your spare spot at least 48 hours before the trip and take PM's on the matter only rather than answering online. That way you can weed out anyone you don;t particularly want on board without upsetting anyones feelings.
The best tip for aspiring deckies is to post pics of your fishing exploits on the forum, get involved with any of the face to face events we have from time to time and generally get yourself known and your chances of sourcing a spot will increase dramatically.
Righteo, I think psychologically avatars might play a part too in deckie and skipper selection, so maybe you might want to consider changeing your avatar , it's probably scaring a few off (hehehe). I have visions of you rocking up for a fish wearing that get up. (hahahaha)

Have only recently joined
Have only recently joined this site after "lurking" for a while reading the forum and have met a couple of good deckies.
Im fifo myself and getting peopl mid week and often short notice can be a hassle.
Both blokes have been Reliable, ON TIME, and willing to help out with the cleaning/expenses which is all that canbe asked.( I'm sure we all dread that 20nm+ trip with someone just begging to be thrown over the side)
Im by no means a guru, I'm happy to get a feed and find a few new spots and am pretty straight up with this before we head out....it seems to be a lucky charm seeing I caught more fish with a fw deckie than my usual escapades!
will definately post again if looking for someone, just be prepared for the odd response from some people that are obviously on some good gear;)

I am happy to take mature
I am happy to take mature acting/thinking young people on my tub.
It makes launching and retrieving the big tub so much easier having a bit of a dissability.
I just do not want to be around fools when out there.
I am about to launch the tub again, sadly by myself, this morning for another great time on the water!
So a recommended deckie system would be great, just to weed out the occasional mushroom none of us want to associate with

deckie
Im happy to fish with any FW member, I joined this forum to meet people more than anything pretty sure that's better than looking at pictures of fish haha
Its probably a good idea to get that deckie thread going- Im always keen to go for a fish and eager to help out too. Don't know how I stack up against other deckies but I have some experience and can say id be jumping out of my skin to get the opportunity to go. My main beneift is basically my availability at the moment.
I'm also keen to take poeple out on my tandem fishing kayak! Don't know if that counts as being my deckie though. Fuel costs count as paying for my lunch haha! If your keen let me know!

I have taken about 10
I have taken about 10 different FW members out on my tug, and keep in regular touch with most of them and am now really good mates with many of them and have done many local, regional and international fishing trips with them. Several (well....most) of the blokes are half my age but that does not matter at all, we are all keen fisho's, enjoy a beer (even Schecky is allowed to have a beer now....not so sure he is legal yet.....) and have a laugh, so FW has been great to me!
I have even been decky a few times and had a ball, actually I would like to do more of it. Great to learn new stuff from other skippers and sometimes provide a few tips back.
