fishing this morning

Got up early this morning and went for a fish on the beach just north of cottelsoe. Finally caught a whiting (third attempt - no sniggering!) also got a flat head measuring 38cm which I was quite pleased with. Then picked up a decent sized herring by mistake when I cast out way too far and started to retrieve. I started off using small bits of red meat but was getting nothing so switched to those squidgy red worms things cut in half. Then was getting loads of bites but only caught the three fish mentioned above.

Is it best to strike when they bite or wait till they hook themselves? Hooks were small long shanks, would another type of hook help? Maybe my technique is the problem :)

Anyway nice to get out of the house and herring/flathead for lunch, cant complain.

 Let them nibble, it's only

Let them nibble, it's only when you start feeling a little bit of weight, that's you strike.

Sometimes the fish will pick your bait off and not 'take it', and that's when it gets hard

wind slowly, then a little faster, thats my technique and you will hook more whitting, also small baitchasers increase your chances aswell, baitwise fresh horsemeat or simillar, prawns ,squid and beachworms
