general consensus on a plotter
Submitted by black gen on Thu, 2012-04-19 10:37
im in the game for a new plotter and have done a fair bit or searching on here and it seems that most people are running a lowrance...from what i can see from the search option.
the screen doesnt need to be overly large and my price range is anywhere up to $1500...
can anyone suggest any ideas on a plotter. so far all i can turn up is a hds5 or a bit bigger..
thanks in advance

If you want to try and buy
If you want to try and buy from the US (might be a bit risky) dont buy a lowrance they have geofencing, which means once you get the plotter here it wont work.
The new garmin are nice to use

For 1500 you could take your
For 1500 you could take your pick...I spent half that for a hummingbird combo accepts navionics has a 5" screen 640 x 640 resolution with a side imaging transducer ...just thought why just have a dedicated plotter when the combo's are just a smidgen more ...however if your happy to spend the 1500 HDS 7 or even maybe the 8 , with the broadband ra ra I understand they load quicker and are very accurate...

yet to see first hand myself only just got it...it's not my primary sounder however apparently they work well in less than 30m..adds another dimension ... there's some good vids on youtube that explains the tech / interpretation fairly well..

The other factor worth
The other factor worth considering is what sounder are you running ?? and if you want the plotter unit to be able to talk to it

At risk of appearing to go
At risk of appearing to go into bat for navman, there is a setting you need to change to zoom right in. By default its off. I found it once on dkonig's plotter after he made the same complaint.
