Submitted by danno on Fri, 2011-06-03 00:31
Hey all.
I got a Stradic 1000fi a few weeks ago and looking to spool it with 6lb braid but im not shore which one to get, I was thinking sunline but for 40bucks for 150m and the spool only holds 120 if im lucky i was wondering if there is any other good brands around for cheaper then 40 and not fireline.
Cheers danno

Whatever you do don't go to
Comment Edited* Yamatoyo .6 pe is pretty good, bit more costly though. Considered the new fireline exceed? It's totally different to the old fireline.

im using the new fire line
im using the new fire line exceed 0.12 which is 8.8lb on my 2500 certate. Normally i found the coating of the braid disintigrating and wearing thin causing frayed edges and reduced strength in knots but this stuff not to be raving or anything but ive been out 4times this week using it for at least 3hours each time and it still looks brand new. Sinks a dream also if needed.
for $24 for 135m its deffo a dream to use mate

Nitlon
Flangies,
Can you elaborate on your nitlon comment? Been looking at it lately and would like to know more about your bad experience with it.
I have been using it in 20 and 30 pound on a Stradic 8000 and its been great, was looking at getting an 8 pound version for my 2500 Stradic which currently has 10 pound firleine that is a bit worse for wear....

sunline cast away..
casts a mile, great knot stength but find it has a short life span.
never used nitlon
prefer fire line. very tough with good abrasion resistance, fewer wind knots and if knots occur there easily worked out. its wirery and doesnt cast as well but when im working timber i dont need distance.

I spooled up with 6lb
I spooled up with 6lb Fireline Exceed recently and I'm impressed so far, haven't used it a whole load though.
It's super thin, got that traditional wirey Fireline type feel and the orange looks pretty hot on the right reel too.

A 150m spool of Sunline Super
A 150m spool of Sunline Super PE will fit on your 1000 stradic no worries. I know this for a fact because I have it on mine and it's great. I have 4 reels with sunline super PE and it never lets me down.

Nitlon is fine. Just dont
Nitlon is fine. Just dont overspool it or you will get wind knots galore. I use it in 4/6/10/20/30/40lb and think its good stuff but 6lb and 4lb is very prone to wind knots if you over fill the spool or dont cast with a smooth motion.

take a look how you keep
take a look how you keep nitlon or any braid on you reel, if it doesn't stay tight on the spool you will eventually throws loops, proberley what flangies does each time his uses nitlon. that why he has an aversion to it.

Don't expect much
from the crap thats on ebay. In my and others experience it's hugely overrated, thick and rubbish.

What are you using it for?
I use Berkley fireline at that size on a couple of diiferent reels and find it to be great they are mainly used for bream fishing but get used for all sorts of different fishing

Fair enoguh, I just figured you were a southy with all your woodies point squid.
I'll get out for a very quick session tomorrow morning (bream or squid) but my big exam is Thursday so I'm mostly house-bound for now.

I use powerpro 5lb, great
I use powerpro 5lb, great stuff and have not had a problem with it. About $45 off ebay for 300m, so it's cheap as.
It's thin, I recon you could get 150m of 5lb on a 1000 size reel easy.
I have only heard great reports about sunline so your probably better getting that if your willing to spend the extra money.

Power pro 8lb is what I use
Power pro 8lb is what I use for the bream outfit. Cheap but reasonable quality. Landed a few small sambos on the bream outfit, which is gonna stress the 8 lb braid more than most things. 1500 Tierra has never quite been the same......

Colour of Braid
Which colour suits best for squidding or do you use a leader direct on to the jig?

You can use any colour braid
You can use any colour braid but you must have a fluro leader. I use sunline which is Bright green and i still get squid. I use a leader of 60-70cm and i find thats enough.

Definately a leader for squidding, they're pretty shy otherwise.
