G'Day Guys
Back in December I uploaded some images of my Bro in laws HDS in 280m but they were not clear. I managed to get out today and took a couple of pics of the screen. We managed a solid bottom trace in 490m but it was slow and as soon as you moved I lost the picture. I did however get some much clearer shots than those previously posted.
I know that there are a lot of people out there that want to know what a HDS will do. These shots are from a HDS with a 50/200 600w tranny. Note that these shots are when the sounder is running on full auto. We could sound around at 4 knots but above this and the picture would breakup. Next step is a bigger tranny through the hull and lots of practice reading and understanding what I am seeing.
cheers

Nice shots, looks pretty good for a 600w. More importantly, what did you catch?

At the depths shown the resolution is pretty good eh.

Brody - we caught bugger all
Brody - we caught bugger all mate. Just green eye sharks. When we were all so knackered from winding up 2 kgs of lead on a TLD50 we moved into 40-50m where we got a couple of undersize dhuis and busted off a really good fish when he dived into a cave and cut the leader.
Terry - my interpretation is that there were no fish of any account on any of these shots. It appeared to be just desolate bottom with a couple of 5m or so pinnacles here and there. I cant see anything that would suggest otherwise. Glad to hear if someone can tell me different !
Snappermiles - yes mate I agree, I need to start learning how to drive it manually. Im OK with the easy stuff like the ranges but I have to get the the gain and colour line under control. It just takes practice, practice, practice.
cheers

A frequent criticism about
A frequent criticism about the lowrance gear is that you can see the bottom in deeper water, but no fish usually, or at least they don't seem to ever have matching fish pics.
Good luck though!

very impressiveI was playing
very impressive
I was playing with the settings on my 585 with the 258 transducer on sunday in 300 -350
I just can't get it as good as you have it there.
coming to terms with the fact my set up can't produce the goods in 50khz, tho the 200 works well in 200meters.
What would you say that flare up is on 2nd pic lump?
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Impressive solid bottom
The fish are there, the green eyes just got there 1st. As soon as I get a 600w tranny for my converted 7200 globalmap lowrance to broadband, I am going to compare it against my fcv 295 and 2kw R199, at diff depths, take pics and post up........hopefully in the next couple of weeks if I can get out deep.

Grazeee - good question and
Grazeee - good question and now that i look closely it may be fish? I was in the middle of a range change as we were motoring around. I originally thought that those flares were just as a result of moving but maybe not. Appreciate any feedback from other members on this.
