humanely kill a squid or cuttlefish. Some time ago I caught a good size cuttlefish that boosted the bait supply but I must admit I didn't know how to humanely kill it.

Some people recommend a quick stab between the eyes, pointing back towards the brain. I tend to just give the squid a twist before boating them. A bit harder with the big cuttlefish though.

or remove the head by pulling the guts out etc and maybe donging the head with a fish donger

Put in a plastic bag (ink) and onto ice or ice slurry, sends them to sleep very quickly, as with most other types of seafood.

let it live as long as possible if your gonna cyt the tentacles off for bait its better for it to move around

bucket or esky with ice slurry, puts them to sleep like all crustaceans.

Im serious, this is what's quoted from the back of the packaging!! lol
But seriously, this ikijimi, kills the humanely. I stab it into the pen behind the head at an angle. The tube will go white, if only half is white, stab it again slightly into the dark side. Then stab it between its eyes where its hard, the whole head and tenticles will go white. This way it doesnt keep on producing ink and leaving a clean white look.

when I catch one I just grab
when I catch one I just grab it behind the head and squeeze until it goes loose and white (only takes a few seconds), then into the bucket/esky. Careful squeezing too hard as I've had the odd head "pop" off!

easiest and most effective
easiest and most effective way for me. lossen the feather if its a squid straight away like when u get it of the hooks slide ur hand along to fully get the feather of or almost of then just pull on their head. the head and almost all the guts will come out and it will die instantly.

Be a man
Bite it between the eyes. A good placed bite just behing the eyes in the middle is the quickest & most humane way of putting down a squid. I havnt personally tried this method but i would like to watch someone do it. haha. Enjoy the calamari with a nice ceasar sald & a glass of white (i prefere a beer). Rob
