mmmm dont know about that Rig. Me and a mate caught 4 Jumbo greenbacks on Tuesday evening(think it was the full moon) ranging from 65cm to a whopping 79cm!!! Thats right a 79cm metro tailor!!!! All in about 4 hours. The others were 77cm 72cm and 65cm. and heaps of 45cm choppers to keep us busy. And also we did it all on pretty light gear. No word of a lie. I have pics dont wanna post on public forum. PM me. ;)
Dont know for Metro LB Tailor, but i too time most of my fishing trips up to the Coral Coast around/on the Full Moon to target Tailor. Havent lucked out yet :)
I have also had a couple of Metro Tailor sessions on offshore reefs, but have found no correlation to moon phase's yet as i have caught them out there on any phase. Main key i have found to getting Tailor is timing a high tide just on dawn or dusk.
P.S Ripper Tailor you got there Cardinal and Fossil, double thumbs up to you both!
I would post a pic of a 79cm metro Tailor any day of the week. I'd also be interested to see the "light gear" you used to land such a beast.
Louis.... This time of year is the time to be out there. Northern beaches should all produce without you having to travel too far other than to avoid weed. Look for reef structures and try using poppers, stick baits and slices. Daybreak and sunset are the times you need to have lines in the water although this time of year the fish will come on at various random intervals throughout the day. Rising tide works best for me. I don't worry too much about the moon. Heard lots of wives tales about that subject.
U know what Rig i would have been happy mate to post all these pics and do a good write up too, but the bloke i was fishing with had a few incidents on this site with a few members and is no longer part of this. It would be wrong for me to post them and wouldnt feel right. Maybe this is a sign for people to start pulling there heads in.....
The Abu got a workout. The fish was the biggest on my mates 8lb outfit bait casting mulies, epic battle. We were absolutly in disbelieve with what we had just landed. Got quiet for a while so i switched to the cardinal and a 20g halco metal and......
Where's the pic mate , your story is real hard to belieive first you didn't want to give the spot away and now it's because your friend had problems with guys on the site ?? Wouldnt feel right ?? It's a pic of a fish for god sake !!!!!!!
The reason Cardinal isn't posting the photos is because he knows I don't particularly advertise any of my catches. I'll start another thread & edit some photos so you can see the fish but not the location. The rod is a 8ft Shakespear Bigwater 3-7kg (part of an elcheapo combo I bought years ago). The reel is an Okuma Hardstone 2500 spooled with 8lb Jarvis Walker mono. The leader was about 1m of 30lb Platypus Platinum down to a 3 gang of 4/0's. You might not believe it but these fish were landed without the aid of a gaff or net to. Thanks to Cardinal for getting down low & stretching for my leader.
No probs fishon & thank you. It was a cracking session.
As for the original question of moon phases, if you can get a line in the water it's a good time to try. I've caught Tailor in the middle of the day during half moon & halfway through a tide so they can show up anytime. IME the best times are full or new moons, probably because there's more water movement during those times but I don't think one is better than the other.
here is a great link to help u find the best times to fish, based on the moon, tides etc, it from the 720 ABC radio saturday fishing report and it is updated every saturday, great help
