Lancelin Beach.....IS THIS WEIRD!?

Hi all

I have been going to Lancelin everyweekend for the last 9 years. Recently after surfing back beach my dad took me for a ride in our car up there for a flick for tailor. after 10 minutes of no results we got bored and decided to go back home. On the way home we saw a fisherman land a fish. I asked him what it was and he did not know so I got out of the car and had a look and it was a Dart. The next day I was looking for another good surf spot and I found another fisho who had also caught a Dart! Then when I went out surfing i saw 2 MASSIVE schools of herring all bundled up in a black smudge bu when they went past I saw that they had black tail tips so deffinatly a Herring school!

Do herring usually school like salmon....i know there speicies is related?

Are Dart usually caught there?

Cheers

and i have heard of dart caught down here before! as for your fishing effort ten mins and you got bored?? i would suggest mixing it up a little bit try different things! a ten minute effort isnt going to catch you much unless your in the right spot at the right time!

Tail tips

Herring usually don't school up and circle around , they will form a loose pack with some jumping . What you probably saw were buff schooling and tailing, where just the tips of their tails just come clear of the water. Usual down there at this time of the year.

With the strong Llleeuwin current bringing warm water down from the north , dart are not the only northern species showing up. Have seen them caught as far south as Dunsborough.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Fishing the beach at Seabird

Sun, 2011-02-13 17:55

Fishing the beach at Seabird On the Aussie day break I caught a nice sized Dart with the news of that spreading through the park like a viral email. About three years ago I caught and relaesed a baby Cobia of the beach there as well.
