Is this legal?

Does anybody know if this cray hook is legal? Saw it advertised as legal but on gum tree so wasn't sure... Thought it might be the "blunt hook" in the fisheries rules?

 They're legal, I've got one

They're legal, I've got one somewhere but it's nowhere as effective as a loop. If they were as good as the seller says they are, everybody would have them

that would probably be

that would probably be legal.but a straight piece of rod with a hook bent on the end works good and is easy to carry when you diving

Divers may only catch rock

Tue, 2012-11-13 20:52

Divers may only catch rock lobster by hand, or by a hand-held snare or blunt crook. Spears, nets and similar devices that can damage rock lobster are illegal.

that`s from the wa fisheries website.as long as it doesn`t have a sharp point on it it should be ok

 Legal but some fisheries

Tue, 2012-11-13 22:12

Legal but some fisheries officers dont like them so yeah...I have heard of guys leaving them under a ledge if a fisheries boat came over to them

But its blunt and doesnt hurt the cray so its legal in strict interpretation of the law

I prefer the crook, not like

Tue, 2012-11-13 23:06

I prefer the crook, not like that one though.

10mm SS, 2 feet long out to 2 hooked fingers. Over top and push down while you grab.

Never mastered the snare, but I can see how maybe at the islands under plate coral it might be the only way.

Fisheries guys not liking them?-theyve seen ours, theyre legal if not theyre not sharp and commonly used up our way.

As Ive said before, they deserve and should be shown respect, but they arent god. If they confiscate it then you are entitled to know on what grounds.

Gave it a go a few years ago , found it to be O.K with smaller crays and could "spoon" em out in quick time , when I lost it I went back to snare though....
