Marine band radio - GME

Hi Guys,

I have a GME marine radio that has gone all dodgy - I won't switch off, sounds like it is recieving noise all the time, and won't transmit - It is about 2 years old and has been undercover the entire time.

Is there anyone that fixes these for less than the cost of a new one, or is there anyone with one in their shed they want to get rid of - I have it mounted in my boat in a GME flush mount bracket, so would prefer this brand.

Wanna go out to FFB on Saturday, but first need to sort this issue out...and don't have the 150 bucks for a new one...

for a cheap one, get a uniden, it'll last longer than the GME, shame really as GME used to build a bloody good radio, not so now.

I cannot recommend an icom enough if the budget can stretch, we abuse the crap out of them at work and they still keep performing day in day out in full exposure to the weather.

VHF

If you are going to have to buy a new one upgrade to VHF, better range, clarity and in the near future you will find that most sea rescue groups will be dropping 27 meg  monitoring.

Uniden Icom and Cobra are good brands that give little trouble

GME..

Wed, 2011-01-19 17:01

I've had 2 x GME 27megs in the last 6 months and both stuffed up after only a couple of trips, they both had the exact same problems as yours Dave eg - constant noise, wouldn't turn off, no transmission.

After takin the second one back I swapped and upgraded the GME for a Uniden 27meg and had no problems since, imo GME = CHEAP CRAP!!

Cheers
