Mulloway?!?!

Hi all,

New to this site but love to fish. Based in the Bunbury area, but I do have a few questions to you guys out there?

Been chasing mulloway the last couple of months weather permitting. Now with not much luck at all. Got one little soapie while trying to get some live bait. Do they have a preferred season to bite in or is it just pot luck?

Love to hear your comments.

Dave

Welcome mate, How to catch mulloway is a very common question on this site. Try the search function.

Mulloway can be seasonal but can also be caught all year round. Just keep trying and fish more peak times, use the fishermans almanac to pick the best times then put the hours in.

It took me 3 months to get my first land based and another 6 months till i got my next one.

Cheers Grant.

PS. Beat me to it dhuking. LOL

Very good point there DieHard, I don't usualy target mulloway alone.

I use 2 rods, one small outfit for heering, tailor etc. One big rod for mulloway, gummy sharks, snapper ect.

I have started useing circle hooks a lot more too. If you hook a shark and are useing mono line yu have a good chance of landing it.

+ you might have to land 100 ray's before you get a good fish LOL.

Spot on

I use x2 7/0 or sometimes 8/0 Gama Circles.. even got some 6/0 for smaller baits.....

hahah the rays are what i target, but lets just say sometimes with a bait in the water for around 5-8 hours you dont even get a run

***
look for deep gutters, or deeper parts of water...

Thanks guys,

I searched and read a lot of posts. But yes the rays are starting to win the nemesis battle so far. But I hope i do prevail.

I usually have three rods set up when I go out. 1x 12 foot. 1x 10 foot and a little flick rod at 8 foot I use for herring tailor etc. It was the 8 foot i caught a soapie on about 30-40 cm didnt measure it just put him back to grow so I can catch him again.

Thanks for the tips thou.
