Hi Everyone,I am new to the forum and want to learn to fish. I went to Coral Bay last year and went deep sea fishing and have decided I would like to take up fishing as a hobby. I went and bought a rod the other day and went out on Saturday but failed miserably, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any beginners fishing groups or lessons that I can go to that will teach me everything I need to know.Cheers

welcome aboard, you will
welcome aboard, you will pick up plenty of tips from many of the keen fishos on this site. your best bet would be to let people know where you will be fishing that way others can give advice on that area and also what size rod and line class you will be running. another way would be to drop into either the tackle shack in malaga or oceanside tackle and marine in o'conner. both stores are sponsors of this site and very in the know on all types of fishing. good luck

U could always join a fishing club they have some helpfull people and organise group fishing days melville angling club is one i know of. Or maybe one of the single guys on the site could invite u out on their boat and show u a few of their secrets. But then again if your anything like my girlfriend u will probably out fish any man u fish with.

Yeah I made a few boys jealous when I caught a monster Rankin Cod in Coral Bay after 10 minutes of being on the charter. Biggest catch of the day.

just had a look at your profile and seeing where you are based i would suggest trying hillaries or mindarie, but get yourself down to The tackle Shack on Alexander drive in balcatta and see Matt , Bruce or Blake for the best rig and bait to use from those areas, tell them who you are and they will look after you

I went to Mindarie the other
I went to Mindarie the other day... the only thing that was biting was a crab on my toe and a stupid bird that attacked the undersized fish i had just about reeled in that would have christened my line. Grrrr I was so mad!

good to see another female taking interest, if only i could get my wife to do the same! If you are land based you also have options like the river and freshwater locations. you can also target good fish on soft plastics and lures there(also can be done in the ocean) and avoid the smelly bait, but if your into fishing then thats probably not an issue!

Herring is definitely tha place to start
I just picked up a rod at xmas and I'm landbased. I find that tha easiest thing to catch is herring and theyre good eating. My limited experience has been that tha whiting are too small to eat but who knows a change in season may bring some new fish.
