Perth to Tasmania Road Trip
Gday people.
Heading off tomorrow bright and early for a roadtrip to Tasmania. I am taking the laptop and digital camera with me and will endeavor to put up photos and post from major centres. We are camping on the road for the majority of the time.
Vehicle: 1987 BJ74 Toyota Landcruiser Mid Wheel Base 3.4lt Turbo Diesel. Fuel Economy around town over the last 6 tanks is 610km+ per 70ltr tank or 8.71 km per litre. Diesel estimates for 9000km round trip at 1.30$ per litre = 14.75 tanks = $1342.62 in diesel.
Equip: Car Log book, Trip(Fishing) Log book, Bushman Car fridge, dome tent, air mattress, ground canvas tarp, sleeping bags, folding chairs, camp table, gas stove and bottle, gas lantern, shovel, axe, waeco 12v car kettle, camp food, clothes, doormat for tent, 12 string Maton Guitar. New Kenwood Car Stereo with 6" 4 ways in the rear and 5 1/4" with component tweeters in the front. 2x 6' 4kg outfits for fishing on the road, bucket, small tackle box and knives.
Our plan is Perth to somewhere past Balladonia and camp, then onto Ceduna to camp. In Ceduna fish from the town jetty that night/next morning. On the road to Victoria harbour for a day or two (Fish somewhere) muck around in Mclaren Vale then onto Adelaide and then Melbourne where we are staying with family.
In Melbourne going to visit the Maton Guitar Factory for a guided tour, seeing Wicked the Musical and sightseeing, then flying to Launceston while My girlfriends mum and Aunty take the cars across Bass Strait on the Spirit of Tasmania. 11 days cruising all over Tasmania (Sure to find some fishing in there somewhere!) then we take the cars back on the Ferry and then repeat the trip back.
Have I forgotten anything important?
Speak to you from the road:D

Ceduna
stop at the old blue rail car which is now an oyster shop. Best oysters in the land and damn cheap.....just before you hit town
cactus beach at penong is worth a stop (head to Pt sinclair 22km south opposite the roadhouse)
avoid the roadhouse at cocklebiddy theiving mongrols....
Elliston has great beach fishing and coffin bay has good fishing and camping.
don't spend your $$ in Pt Lincoln and don't walk around with a banjo.....
most of all let victorians know Victoria sucks...ha ha
Tassie is wild, highly recommend hit Strathan and taking the tour up the frankland river. Walk into a pub and ask for both a boags and casade.......cradle mountain is beautiful, Salamanda in Hobart is cool. dont miss Port Arthur and the ghost tour but do the last tour of the day.

East Coast of Tassie - Is a definite do not miss
I agree stop at Strahan and fish the jetty right in town - good ocean trout and salmon (all escapees from the farms there) - evening is the best time with blue bait !
And yes take a ferry trip into the wilderness, well worth the dollars and if you can stretch the budget go on the white boat and pay the extra $50 a head to sit upstairs as it comes with mornn tea, a gourmet lunch ad afternoon tea including premium tassie wines all day. You wont neeed dinner so it is a good investment and the leather seating and elevated view is just the cream on the cake.

If you've got a morning in
If you've got a morning in Ceduna fish Ocean beach western end (the beach you drive on to go to Davenport Creek which is sign posted). Plenty of KG whiting from the shore. Dav Creek is worth camping if you don't want to be in town.
Also Eucla fuel is usually cheaper than the Border Village. Other than that it's a long drive. Good luck.

Your fuel might be
Your fuel might be higher,,you could be driving into strong winds over or back,,
Fuel will be $1.85 or so on some parts of the Nullabour,,fuel costs a lot more in Tassie,,,
Enjoy the trip,,Tasmanias the best state for a driving holiday nice and compact with great villages ,towns and markets,,
BTW >If going over the Gateway bridge to the boat,,turn left over the bridge and under to the beach,,you can wait they until loading or go straight to the boat carpark and have Rex Hunts fish and chips (don't feed the seagulls, lol)

Fuel is the same in tazzy
Fuel is the same in tazzy actually, maybe 5c more. They do a blend with corn so its a slightly lower octane but costs about 5-6c less
