Well, cant really see the point in polaroids specifically for Jigging......its not like your gonna see 50m down into the water....

That being said, I wear polaroids on the boat all the time (jigging or not) for protection but mainly to see fish high up in the water column. Only issue is they make looking at the LCD sounder screen difficult so often they are slung on the dash to read the screen, so make sure they are tough.

Toss up

I have used 4 different pola's over the years. For style Maui, for ruggedness Mako's or Spotters and for flash sporty a pair of polarized Oakley Juliets.

Once on I dont think there is a difference between any pola's to do with polarization. I find it is more to do with the lens colour. Most of the Maui's I have used have had a browny tinge, Mako's seem to have a blue tinge and the spotters and Oakleys are gray.

Now I do know there is different lenses in all glasses but these are the 4 I use(d).

The problem with them is which one can handle the rigors of fishing, being tough and scratch resistant. Oakleys use glass and a film to polarize. The bloody film always scratch so not up to using them on the boat IMO. However the titanium in the frame is as tough as nuts, and the pair i have was given to me by Subaru WRC when they were still sponsored by 555! Got to be 15yrs old, but in that time I have been through heaps of replacement glass. I just dont use them for fishing anymore.

As for the others, they have less tendency to scratch IMO, and they are all rugged. I dont think I would worry about picking one over the next but if I had to currently - Id go a Mako.

Sorry about the dribble, but I think pola's are the first thing to pack when you go fishing. For safety, protection and seeing the fish its a must have.

I bought a pair of polaroids

Thu, 2010-11-11 17:17

I bought a pair of polaroids at a boat show for $20.. that was almost 2 yrs ago and Iv still got them and wear them whenever I fish. They are just as good as any other pair iv put them up against. Bargain!! Its amaizing how much difference a good pair of poloaroids can make.
