Raymarine axiom 9 RV

1 month old axiom 9 with australia wide navionics card and RV100 transducer. These do 3D, down scan, side scan, conventional high chirp and GPS chart plotter.

$2100  now2000

I bought for using the 3D for finding little dive lumps in 35m but it does not show them. The conventional chirp and and the other functions work fine but my lowrance already does what I want.

The unit is in australind.

Crano have you installed the current update for your unit, it is unlikely that you purchased the unit with this installed. You should have no problem in detecting your lumps. It is easy to install via wifi with clear instructions on the raymarine site.  You will notice an improvement in 3d performance. I have the 12 inch version and after a few tweaks re settings its working as expected. What speed are you operating the unit at. Slowing down to 10 knots helps. Take a little time in using the unit before selling .

Squalis, are you using the 12 RV or the 12 Pro? just curious, thinking of one of these myself for the new boat.

3.2.101

 Hi  squalis

I updated it to 3.2.101 as soon as I got it. Aparently there is 3.3 coming out soon and raymarine took down their update a few days ago.

I have tried very slow but no joy. I found changing to the green colour showed more contrast in the picture.

Cranno further insight . My unit is the 12 inch model with 25% greater display size and as a consequence the display will show greater detail than the smaller size screens hence the ability to show more detail. I found the copper colour on the display to be the best in my situation to draw the bottom profile with the unit under complete sun cover as i have a hard top. Have you used sonar chart live as the mapping produced displays more depth variation than the colour palette. You can do a few paralell runs for greatest detail. The 3d version of the lowrance side vision does allow for vertical enhancement of small depth changes which is a bonus and makes it easier to locate small lumps. The main function that i wanted was for my unit is to locate fish off to the sides of the track that i was running rather than looking for small changes in bottom depth.  Best wishes Paul.

Squalis The 12 inch actually has around double the area of the 9 but the price is too much for me. I did not try the sonar chart live.

How are going with seeing fish out to the side on 3D ?

Cranno the best use of the unit is for fish detection out to the sides of the vessle. I. With the big screen it works well i must say this was my main intention for purchasing the unit.  Personelly i would have loved to afford the 16 inch unit but as we know its all down to affordability. All the best for xmas and the new year.

The sub surface bait schools you miss. if i could fit a 9RV and a 9 pro side by side on my new dash, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. But the Pro is wider, due to the extra  controls down one side, so it can't be done unfortunately. It will have to be a 9 pro and a 7RV.

Cranno last time out in the boat i thought of your situation and after some comparisons the best set up on your unit is to use your unit in the  side vision mode where you have a zoom fuction to help pick up  best bottom defenition of even small bottom variations . You will be able to see a wide bottom area with small lumps clearly shown . The 3d mode is not the best for your application but for fish detection is very helpful. Give it a try i am sure you wil not be dissapointed. Very best wishes i hope this will work for you.
