Recommendations for stradic 4000fi
Submitted by Just1morecast on Wed, 2010-12-08 16:17
Just got a stradic 4000fi and was looking at using it for demersal jigging. What are your thoughts on using it, too small? I normally only jig as deep as 50m. Also i have some braid to spool it with but with what 15, 20 or 30lb? I was reading up it can push out upto 9kg drag. Is that false info as most brands tell a few porkys with there max drag power. Any of you already use it or shall i use it for something else?
Currently using a pfleuger torsion but seems a lil heavy on the pe2 rod, Advice from the jiggers will be a huge help.
Cheers

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

sweet! thanks guys, at least we know it can handle a big dhu like the one in your pic then grayzee! Hopefully your daughter gets in on it too this season mob! Both Leah and i are so excited to get back out there and learn more with hopefull success. I actually like the 2month ban, really makes you want to jig/fish even more and appreciate the demersals we have, i think it also helps with keen fishos taking extra care trying to release them in order to experience another catch in the future....i know i do:)

Yeah, i cant imagine being
Yeah, i cant imagine being as keen as i am if stocks weren't looked after around here, still great odds on getting fish. Hey another question mate. Your frog braid do you know roughly what diameter it is? Checking my braid stock i only have 20lb suffix matrix 0.18mm or fins 30lb is around 0.24mm. Im stuck on whether to do 20 or 30 as last year when i got into the sambos it was hard getting them up off the bottom or just spooling me in general. Just not sure il get enough fins on the spool. Whats your opinion?

I use the same reel and have
I use the same reel and have given it an absolute hiding over the last couple of years and has stopped some ripper fish from goooooood size golden trevs, small gts to 8kg, big chinaman, trout, rankins bla bla bla and run 20lb fireline on it. Frog 30lb from memory is 0.28, but you could fit a shipload of 30lb whiplash on it. Rate it highly for the dollars you pay for one.
Cheers

i had 20lb daiwa ?? on it but got a number of bust offs on the braid although it was second hand.
i put 30lb on it for insurance and was glad i did though i can't remember how much i got on there. i've fished it to 80 meters no drama.
dunno about the diameter of frog though

9kg drag...
The drag on the stradics are great and at 9kg max, you got plenty to play with.
At the end of the day, you gotta understand that 9kg of drag is all in the spool. The rest of the reel may not handle it. Like wise Stellas, 20kg of drag but realistically usable drag is about 13-15kg max. I myself only use no more than 10kg straight off the reel.
Either 20-30lb is fine for the reel. Obviously the thinner line will be better to fish with due to less drag in the water.
