hey all,
i bought a shimano terez 40-80lb the other day and i just went to put my fin nor on there to find that it doesnt fit on the rod. so i've decided to by a saragosa for it.the only problem is i dont know if i should buy the 14000 or the 18000 because there simular .would the 18000 be to big for the rod or is it a better option becasue i can get more line on the spool? .does any one have a reel that they favour that they may think will suit that rod?
cheers

I kluge saragosa 14000 and
The saragosa 14000 and 18000 are both the exact same size body just a different spool depth. What are you using the rod for? It might pay to check out a smaller similar reel. I think shimano just released a 10,000 size saragosa which would be a bit more comfortable if you don't need to run a heavy line. It would hold around 300m of 50lb braid. Depending on what you want to do with it an okuma salina 2 or daiwa saltist would be alternative options and a little bit cheaper.

The saragosa 8000 is more
The saragosa 8000 is more like a 30-40lb reel and you could use it for light sambo jigging, but it won't last forever. The sambos encountered in masses are all 20kg+ in summer and it takes forever to land one on 30-40lb. I periodically go through phases of fishing, I'll jig for a while when I can, then I'll move onto something else but I will get out this summer for sure.

Also both the salina II 16000
Also both the salina II 16000 and saltist 6500h holds 300m of PE8 braid. Salina slightly less weight than saltist. Saltist more drag and more guts. Salina smoother and very nice antireverse. Salina also cheaper. Salina handle looks nice but feels odd as its so flat. I have both of these reels and they're both running PE8 and my salina has a spare spool that will have PE5-6 on it.
For a rod around 7' running line that heavy, you're obviously chasing something decent and with a bit of grunt. Out of those 2 mentioned, would probably go the saltist, not just because its more expensive but because I think it would be able the hammering a bit more. The body is built alot tougher and you dont really need the finesse. But if only for jigging and bottom bouncing i think 80lb might be abit much maybe try get 4-500m of 50lb. Also in saying that if it IS by chance just for heavy jigging.... saltist is heavy and it does get to you after a while. Original knob also feels very uncomfortable after a bit of time. I reckon either of these reels would match the rod quite well, but I cant say that from use, just from seeing and toying with those rods instore.
Hope that helps if deciding with some of flangies suggestions.

After a while? 1 small sambo and another 2 drops and you were stuffed ;) Time for you to hit the gym if you want to keep using that 6500.

IN 185m THOUGH!!! Even you were saying how unfit you were in less drops than me on lighter gear lol =D But I guess after a few drops in 185 you're tired whatever you use to jig.
