Reel Recomendation

Ive just bought a shimano t curve spin PE3-5 2 piece and going to use it for drift baiting out the back of a boat and some lite jigging work in 30 to 60m depth max

Been chatting with my mates and have been looking at the daiwa seagate 4500h.......seems to be a reasonable reel for the price

http://www.rayannes.com.au/daiwa-shimano-reels-australia/rods-reels/daiwa/daiwa-spin-reels/daiwa-seagate-4500h-369/

anyone has this reel currently and yr thoughts..................and or other suggestions for a reel wth 8-10kg drag that wont cost the earth (ie saltiga) which is my preferred choice but cost is a deterrent given ill use it no more than half a dozens times a yr

cheers folks

I reckon the competitor reel

I reckon the competitor reel to that would be the Shimano Twinpower 6000 or 10000 FC. I have the 10000 FC, it's the same size as the 6000 but has a larger capacity spool whcih is great. It's the daiwa equivalent to the 4500 size. I've heard the seagate is not waterproof (apart from the drag) where the Twinpower is. Therefore the Sustain may in fact be the competition. The Shimano is dearer by a little but it does come with a spare spool (complete with drag etc).

It's a tough call and apart from the waterproof factor I can't split them. I went with the Twinpower due to it being waterproof plus I had a 6000FB and loved it. Doubt you would go wrong with either.

I have a seagate 3500 light on the way to do some testing with.

Exceller 4500DA

Sat, 2010-10-16 09:32

I recommend the Exceller 4500DA as it has upto 10kg drag and priced well under $300.

The Seagate 4500H is a high speed reel, not really ideal for jigging/ driftbaiting.

The Exceller is pretty much identical reel, just one less bearing, lower gear ratio and obviously different color.

On the seagate mate,They may be of similar appearance to the salti but that where the similarities end .The gearing on mine sounds like a train coming down the tracks and it has not been thrashed. They are more suited to spinning than jigging.Second vote for the Saragosa. Would be a good reel witha suitable gear ratio in that price.
