BullShit

More like the navy testing. It has never happened before, never touched anything in the other sound, Warnbro, crap on all they like. I like the words used "likely and potential", nothing substantial.  What a ripper report too! My 8yr olds written bigger paragraphs for homework!

This is how it reads.

"A bloom of microscopic Chaetoceros algal species was identified as the likely cause.

The report states that potential contributing factors for the bloom include nutrients, higher than normal water temperatures and reduced flushing conditions.

We will continue to monitor the levels of algae in the southern part of Cockburn Sound. We will also continue to monitor the Sound, in particular for crabs and snapper eggs and larvae, to help determine the impact of the fish kill."

And if it is this species then the cause is from "non flushing" so that itself tells us to "Tear down the wall"!

To be fair, the "report"

To be fair, the "report" you're referencing there isn't actually the report, its a brief description of the report. The report is the first link in the description, and is 15 pages long.

Garden Island- Navy:  It's very interesting on Page 9 of the Report- Water Column Sampling.

Have a look at the Map area where the sampling took place.

No water sampling carried out in Careening Bay. I was squidding on the perimeter of the Bay on Thursday morning, when the Navy came out to warn about the hundreds of dead Snapper washed up on the beach.

They would have washed up on the beach overnight or very early in the morning.

The Report states very low Tidal Flow and Wind conditions.

I guess as a humble fisherman of the Area,I have to accept the Report.  But I will always wonder about other factors.

I wasn't saying anything

I wasn't saying anything about the report, or its veracity. I don't know enough about it to make any informed claims.

I was just saying that the initial post I commented on had perhaps missed the fact that there was actually link to the full report on the page, and that the referenced paragraph wasn't the actual report.

We got the official response

Tue, 2016-01-12 11:13

We got the official response which is a load.

My opinion from the infomation gathered by my senses tells me that it is navy related due to the government departments working together to keep it quiet.

Wonder how much they would have to pay all the people in the know to keep that one quiet?

Not suprising about the greens using it and I support the greens on the marina issue. Cedar woods will plant double the amount seagrass it removes? yeah right. (They should start planting it now if they are serious.)

Maybe not a mass government cover up Resurgence but I reckon something smelt fishy from the start.

p.s If the fish death report is anything to go by the marina should not go ahead.

fishkill

Did a job for a bloke who was working on garden island about the time the fish started dying.

They were stopped from working for a couple of days as the navy had to do some radiation tests.

coincidence??

I'm not voicing opinion as to whether the report is right or wrong, however in my experience and training (Aquaculture), certain species of algae (including chaetoceros) are toxic to fish above certain concentrations and will cause mass fish kills. I used to farm salmon in Tasmania and was responsible for monitoring the surounding waters for algae species and cell count (plankton net then microscope) twice daily to try and pick up blooms early so we could get fish out of there if possible. They took it seriously as they had previously had fish kills worth $$$. The site I was on had > $10m in fish spread over 16 cages at any one time. A couple of days of the right growing conditions causing a localised bloom nearby, or a bloom flushed out some still water and pushed towards the cages by tide could have caused massive issues and had potential to wipe out all fish at that site. Algae cells reproduce logarythmically so they can very rapidly (days) build up to high concentrations given the right conditions.
