Rod advice for 8-10' heavy spin
Submitted by flangies on Tue, 2011-06-07 21:21
Hey guys I have a trip to Quobba coming up and I'm after a few more rod options for what to buy, budget isn't really
An issue provided it's quality but I'd prefer to keep
It under $400 it will be for pe 3/4 spinning with metals mainly. Pretty confident I'll
Be sticking a saltiest 4500 on it if anyone has a second hand one they would like to offload, or a combo for that matter.
At the moment I'm pretty keen on the Demon blood 962MH which is rated 2-4, does anyone have one and how do they rate it?
Or what do you use and why?
Thanks in advance

I have the demon blood and
I have the demon blood and rate it very higly, the rod alone is as light as a feather, casts a mile, loads up well and looks as sexy as anything. as long as you find a reel that isnt too heavy, you'll be fine..got mine paired up to a stella 5000sw and matches up perfectly.

Hearty rise
I got a sylphy hearty rise from Oceanside about a year ago that I used exactly for that purpose with a saltist 6500
It is PE 4-6 and was about $350 from memory, well and truly up to the task. Otherwise those shimano t curve gt specials look the goods or If you want to go Hollywood get the daiwa GT86 and don't look back

Btw
Btw if your spinning metals grt the 6500 it will retrieve the lures faster which is the most important thing, weight comes 3rd after line capacity IMO. My mate caught 34kg mackie on spin there last year it got close to spooling him on dogfight with 50lb

RE Heavy spin rod
I have a Bluewater custom made Calstar 900m (9ft) PE3-5 specifically built for heavy spin. Built for trip to Steep Point that never happened. Was to be matched to Saltiga Z4500h perfectly balanced outfit.
Brand new never used, $450.00
PM if interested.

Might be worth checking out
Might be worth checking out the new azusa range of rods that Bluewater stock, in both the Heavy and Medium versions of the 8ft and 9ft models. Personally I'd be leaning towards the Heavy version to help with beating the sharks to your fish and judging by the casting weight specs will suit the larger 85 - 100gm Raiders/Knights metals better.
Agree with Rig on the bigger 6500H saltist.

Thanks guys for your advice
Thanks guys for your advice and suggestions, I think I'll be looking at the Azusa, I did give it a feel before but I wasn't that impressed at the time, though I'll take another look. I've still got a month left so I'm exploring all options.

I have a custom made Sabre
I have a custom made Sabre GF220 but that rod is not available anymore in that size, 8-10kg and puts plenty of hurt on the fish.
Cheers

My tenryu tuna spike sounds
My tenryu tuna spike sounds like the kind of rod your after its 8 foot 6 rated for pe 4-8 and lures upto 150 grams but there is also a lighter version rated for pe 4 -6 and lures to 100 grams . The demon blood rods look quite nice though and would be a bit cheaper
