No not that exciting... More along the lines of Stone Temple Pilots, Supafest with Snoop Dog (Boo), Future Music, Good Charlotte, 3 weeks of Cirque Du Soleil and a few other bits and bobs. Nothing that exciting. Had a festival on sunday with Megadeath and had to work from 8am to 11pm... I am stuffed. No fishing for me.

Yep, i'm heading over for a feew largers at the Quokka arms boxing day, only fishing will be trolling lures for SBT on the way home.

Raft ups have been banned in certain bays - was in the latest newsletter from the Authority (sorry deleted it, and can't find it online).

Might be over there as well - sandcastles on the beach and floating around in the blowup chair with a few ales to keep cool.

i heard this also, comes down to numbers of people on a vessel at a certian time, read it in the paper a few weeks back, the only place to be on Boxing day is at the Motorplex for NITRO FUNNY CARS!!

Raft up – Over recent month the RIA has become aware of the marketing of “Raft Up” type events to be held in Rottnest Island reserve waters over the summer. Any events of this nature require approval by the RIA. Furthermore, new regulation is being finalised which will allow Rangers to provide direction to persons to cease any disorderly or offensive conduct or behaviour which is causing disturbance or annoyance to other persons within the limits of the island.

The above is the exact copy from the December News letter.

Last year one of my sisters friends fell through a window and had to be air lifted of the island. Also the liquor licensing board was charging all the charter boat owners for alcohol supply when there charter didn't allow for it. They also were getting hit for having people in the water to close to the boats. I'd suggest this year it will get even worse.

It is getting sadly very out of hand.

I just went to Bali in September... Stayed at the Bounty Hotel... WHAT A MISTAKE! A little too old for the shenanigans that went on in that place.

 haha, yeah, my bum will be nice n tanned when i get back. None of us know where we are staying, or what we are doing over there, it is all a big surprise. but we know we are not in a mainstream hotel, so thinking it is one of those villa/cabin type setups on the beach somewhere.... hope there aint any tsunamis. will take plenty of pics while over there, and taking a few rods too.

All I have to say is... I hope you are single, coz I got my money on everyone in a relationship doing the dirty... Bali for me was an eye opener. It's messed up!

Im sure if everyone on this forum is like me, then the drinking kinda gets forgotten when fishing. When I went to the Abrolhos, I was more excited about tying rigs and kicking Hlokks ass then I was about getting smashed... Although I did have a few glasses of wine at night with dinner. :)

Carnac's not bad, not too far to head out for a fish for those who want to. Few beers at anchor at carnac....only question is who's driving my car home!

I got a plan... If I was to drive your car home then that would mean you would owe me one... and that I can ditch my blow up boat and jump on your slightly bigger one... What do you think? We got a deal?

I think the ideal place is the north end of Garden Island in either Herring bay or Petrov.  Basically go over, have an informal fish/squid/crab comp say 9-12. Meet up in either bay based on the weather, head onto the shore and utilise the bbq facilities for a cook up, a few brews, then onto the beach for a bit.

Either BBQ area has drop toilets and bin facilities.  Good chance for squid, crabs, whiting, herring, gardies, trevally, kgw etc.

I believe that this would meet all the criteria for incorporating fishing into the mix.

With the festive season upon us I would like, as a courtesy, to advise you of the measures being enacted over the holiday season to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all vessels visiting the Rottnest Island Reserve. In particular, I would like to draw to your attention the following:

1.    Rafting Up

The Department of Transport (Marine Safety), Western Australian Police (Water Police), Department of Health and the Rottnest Island Authority (agency alliance) are seeking the assistance of the boating community to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer at Rottnest Island.

The practice of “rafting up” with other vessels has inherent risks and as such, is not supported by the agency alliance. Skippers of vessels have a Duty of Care to ensure their passengers are not exposed to any undue risks that could result in preventable injuries.

Skippers are advised that Parakeet Bay will be closed to charter vessels for the 24 hour period from midnight 25 December 2010 until midnight 26 December 2010. There will also be restricted and conditional entry for recreational vessels, including beach anchoring or landing will not be permitted during this time and vessels are not to anchor within 10 metres of another recreational vessel.

Skippers are advised to navigate with caution when entering Parakeet Bay and be mindful of other vessels anchoring within the bay over this period.

Marine Safety Officers, Water Police and Rottnest Rangers will direct vessels involved in “rafting up” within the Rottnest Island Reserve to disband if there is disorderly, offensive or dangerous behaviour and/or disturbance or annoyance to other persons (penalties of up to $1,000 apply).

Well Rod P was correct Parakeet bay was closed off with a police boat doing bog laps off the bay to keep everyone out, which resulted in plenty of boats running up and down the island looking for everyone else !!

It seemed that no one knew where it was going to be held, we pulled into most bays on the north side looking for any action but it seemed they were mostly private groups or regulars so we anchored up in Thompsons bay swam ashore and hit the pub for a counter meal and a bit of Fishing !!

Turned out to be quite a good day and definatly beat the heat compared to back on land...
