Rotto Swimmers Need Boats

 Hey Guys,

Sorry not fishing related, but if any of you out there with boats, are at all interested in helping, theres a few people that have been training to do the Rotto Swim(this weekend)and have had the support boat pull out, as thus wont be able to do it.

These people are prepared to pay for any expenses, and are quite desperate. If you look on the website   www.rottnestchannelswim.com.au/forum   and check people and equipment, you will find. I did the swim and we used my boat last year and its a pretty cool day to be involved in. Ive just agreed to do it for a solo swimmer. Not everyones cup of tea, but you got to take your hat off to them.

Apologies for all those who have slogged hard training  but I can be pretty selfish !!!

As far as I am aware the last date a swimmer could nominate another skipper/boat was 16th of Februari.

After that date no more swapping of boats.

Hopefully I am wrong on behalf of the swimmers and crew.

What realy annoys me is the Rottnest Island boards attitude  towards the support boats that are made to feel very unwelcome in the handbook rules regarding this event.

There are so many unused moorings arround for the saturday evening that could be made available for the support boats to join in the festivities.

Without support boats there is NO event!

I am putting white tape over anything that says Rottnest on the number stickers out of protest to their Ned Kelly attitude.

I hear what your saying

The idea for me was to help out, head over, anchor up and enjoy the night with the crew but due to limited spots to anchor, and the very real chance of coping a fine, I'm dropping them off and heading home alone.

Just another opportunity for the island to welcome everyone with open arms and start to turn themselves into a boat people friendly place so more visitors make the island flourish and successful. But nope.

I say it all the time. Love rotto for its water, not the actual island. Too hard, too expensive.

Did it last year, the weather

Did it last year, the weather was great. Not doing it this year and would not consider it in swell/high winds. Close quarters boating would undoubtably result in a few clashes

Worth checking to make sure that your insurance cover is adequate and covers for the event

But good luck to those who do go

With regards to Rotto - great waters but to expensive on the Island - we sometimes do an overnighter. I would say that you would be able to find somewhere to anchor up for the night

Cheers
