saltiga 4000 - yes or no?

hi fellas,

im after a new demersal jigging reel to suit my hearty rise jigforce. lately ive been looking at the saltiga 4000 but still unsure wether to get it or not.. i think it might be a tad too big and heavy? does anyone have one and can comment on the overall size?

any other reccomendations instead? price isnt an issue..

assuming the saltigas great

Mon, 2011-11-07 22:44

assuming the saltigas great reel but ive been blown away  quite a few times this year on pe3 (30lb) not the 50lb pe3 most ppl are running. so if your going to run "pe3" make it of a good quality. saltiga will be one of my next reels for sure, but more so for popping/casting... then again someone will probly talk me into a stells ;)

yeah I understand theyre a good reel, but im wondering if theyre too big for demersal jigging?.. especially on the jigforce. i already have a heavier pe3 and pe4 setup, so this is only going to be running pe2. should i invest in something of a smaller size?

You should still be able to

You should still be able to pick up the older Saltiga's real cheap compared to the new models so they are worth a look here. Not sure why the 4000 since it's the same size as the 4500 but with a smaller spool. The weight is pretty much the same. If that's the size reel you are after I'd get the 4500 spool for that little bit of extra line capacity.

I have a Stella SW 5000 which is smaller than the equivalent 4000/4500 saltiga and reckon this is what you are after. They're an amazing reel and are incredibly strong for their size. They come in at just under 400 grams.

Since you are going to run PE2 the Stella is perfect. It should fit most if not all of the 300 yard spool on it which is plenty of line.

2003 vs 2010 saltigas....

Tue, 2011-11-08 08:13

I think everyone is only talking about the new models which is smaller than the old saltiga 4000.

The new 4500 is the same as the 5000, just different size spools.

I reckon you're fine with the new 4000 on the Jigforce but it'll be the biggest you want to go. Smallest would be a 3000 Daiwa.

Im a plus on the Saltiga 4000

Tue, 2011-11-08 07:43

Im a plus on the Saltiga 4000 - I picked one up last week as the 5000 was looking lonely.

Im going to put mine on a HR Jigforce as a close mate has that exact combo for a PE3, i cannot fault it at all. a perfectly weighted combo for jigging.

As for weight a Stella 5000SW is only 40 grams Lighter than a saltiga 4000. Not a Massive difference.

At the end of the day they are both excellent reels and have both been tried and tested with everyone happy with the choice they make. It will all come down to your personal preference. Maybe take your HR to a store that stocks both reels and have a test/play and go from there.

The saltiga would be the best

The saltiga would be the best reel for the job. We sell plenty of them matched to jig forces and all our customers are loving them

Stella 5000 vs Saltiga 4000

Tue, 2011-11-08 10:35

They put out the same amounts of drag, saltiga weighs 40 grams more,
saltiga can hold near 70 metres more pe2, saltiga has a better handle and better handle arm being one piece
Also Stella's ratio is 6.2:1 and saltiga is 4.9:1
So the Saltiga is way better suited for jigging and having the extra line capacity means youll be able to jig relatively deep for ambers

I service reels on the side

Tue, 2011-11-08 12:30

I service reels on the side and as far as corrosion issues go Saltys are winning hands down in my experience, The sort of stuff I see under the chrome plastic bottom plates on the stellas is not good and that's if you can get the screw out without stripping the corroded thread. Regular cleaning and maintenance will negate that of course.

Far out, I respect anyone that services/repairs reels, I can't stand it. Is that the new Saltiga or older Salitga you are comparing to?

Older Brodes the new ones

Tue, 2011-11-08 16:05

Older Brodes the new ones haven't been around long enough to guage what their durability is and quite frankly I haven't worked on one yet, interested to see how this mag sealing affects disassembly/assembly.
