Shimano Ocea EX8

Hey guys,

Has anyone used the new Shimano Ocea EX8 braid?

Im upgrading the line on my demersal jigging outfit and considering the Ocea PE4 as its rated to 70lb so nice and thin with a pretty high breaking strain.

Cheers

Yeah highly recommended,by the slow pitch gurus. Thin but high breaking strength. Slice thru the current easily without much water drag.

I'd give Sunline Jigger 8HG a thought, although they rate PE 4 at 60lb vs the 70lb of the Ocea.

Just keep in mind that what they claim it breaks at and what it breaks at are two different things.
I've seen some good things from Sunline, so have and will continue to make the change.

As for price, I will let you research that!

Got the pe4

Nice braid. I tried it recently on my pe3 JM reel against sambos... Holds up well. For good value I'd suggest a bulk purchase (1800m spool) of saltiga boat braid (pe3 40lb) for your demersal jigging.. Plenty enough grunt in that stuff.

Hey GGs,We stock the OCEA EX8

Sat, 2015-01-10 10:45

Hey GGs,

We stock the OCEA EX8 line in all sizes ranging from pe1 (20lb), all the way through to pe8 (121lb), including the pe4 (70lb) you mentioned in the first comment.

All reports from customers so far is that it has excellent knot strength, and is very sensitive and strong. The line has one of the best diameter vs breaking strain comparisons than most other braids out there.

If you are interested, feel free to drop by and have a chat with some of the guys in store. More than happy to help out.

And don't forget to mention you are a fishwrecked member so we can take 10% off the total!

Cheers

Hi all, how are you finding this braid is holding up?  I bought some PE2 from Compleat at the end of last year and found it very good.  However, I went out today though and had two break offs.  One was with a fish on and it might have been the leader knot but the other was a snag and it broke quite far up the line.  Is it possible its strength has deteriorated this quickly?

Ive had no issues with it and found that it holds knots (braid to leader) very well.

Gave the PE4 a good workout in Exmouth the other week and it stood the test even after being roughed up by a couple of sharks.

Any one seen this in a bulk spool off 1000-1200m off Pe4.  Looking at using it on reel for a lighter deep dropping outfit for jigging
