Ryans way is a bit quicker than the vid but you can always defrost the ocky and skin it at home and then leave it in a container with a wetcloth in the fridge...........all ready for the next days fishing

Never have skinned the occy

Never have skinned the occy and always caught Dhues with it (also smaller fish as well without skinning).  If the fish are hungry they will eat it.  (they don't skin it in the wild do they?)

skining the octopus is the way 2 go. the bait lasts longer when drifting as the skin gets water logged if ya dont skin so sharp knife and get that white flesh exposed......will catch more fish 4 sure

never skinned occie in 40yrs of fishing out of a boat, caught so many dhuies, baldies, snapper, etc.  The only time we skin occie is after cooked, ready for pickling.  He keeps his occie on ice and only takes out enough for bait to defrost.

Had much more success skinned

And as a bonus have started to catch BIG kgw as a side catch but only when skinned !

I now do it the night before aqnd store it in small plastic containers always kept on ice until placed on the hook - pure white and fresh

My personal view is that it markedly increases catches - Ryan showed me how and, bluntly, with the poor quality of bait occy available it at least makes it presentable but I now pay premium prices and secure eating grade occy to further improve the chance of good fish and the "conversion rate"is excellent even in high fished metro waters
