Do a search sharktale put up
Do a search sharktale put up a very good post on the basics of it all. You should be able to figure it out with that info. As long as your sliding on mono and not braid it should go down, you have to move to rod tip to slide it down. Crimping a sinker to the top of the trace where it meets the slide will help it slide down much faster I use about 1-2oz ball sinkers depending on bait size.

as said a weighted slide will help, make sure you are shaking the slide down. Also, bait size will have an impact, whole herring is about as small as you wanna go. Also, if your slide trace wraps your main line it wont get far.
Cant give much more advice without more info, gear (length of trace, leader, sinker, line etc), conditions, bait size, fishing surf or from rocks etc?

The best ones are the
The best ones are the weighted ones with the beads to stop the spring crushing they are from south Africa. But richter is bringing out some new ones that look just as good not sure on when they are available but they look the goods. Most shops should be able tol get hold of the richter ones.
