Hello Gents. I'm in the process of organising yet another trip to Steep Point in March and was wondering if anyone has heard if any fish were being caught land based. Thanks Ray

Johnray,We were at Steep
Johnray,
We were at Steep Point in mid January this year. Paul, the ranger, mentioned that the Leeuwin current was not very warm this year. The spanish mackerel were there, as were the tuna, but their average size was down (most about 9-11kg). We fished for 4 days, and took some time for a swim each day (during which time other camps caught fish) and we ended up with 4 mackerel, 2 decent pink snapper, some tuna and a buff bream (woohoo!). We also hooked more (including a big Yellowtail King we lost at the gaff.) We had one ballooning rig and we had 3 spinning outfits fishing sporadically.
The other camps did well, too. A big Yellowfin Tuna, plenty of Mackerel and some reefies (including baldchin) from the rocks.
Hope this was of some help.

We mainly freedived, and did really well.
Balloons got majority of the fish, but we didn't balloon.
