Submitted by holth on Mon, 2014-04-28 16:26
Heading to exmouth saturday and was wanting info on the ramp conditions at tantas after the flooding. Launching a 5.3 ali.
Any locals or guys currently up there able to shed some light on conditions.
Cheers Paul.

Looking
at the pics on facebook i'd say you'll have a lot of trouble getting through the roadblock for a start.
The ramp looks fully inundated with sand after the floodwater heading out Tanta's creek.

Yeah rang bluewater exmouth and they said ramp is pretty sanded up. High tide launch/retrieve only. I suppose its a case of take our chances and if its no good launch from gulf side. Bundigi?

You still got time
To go to martins trailer parts, and install a drop down retrieval wheel onto the draw bar of your trailer. It's only a small boat, so should be well light enough.
The best way to retrieve your tub when the ramp is shallow, sandy, etc, etc.

198 metres
Just walked the sand bank 10 minutes ago low tide 198 metres till you hit water from the bottom of the ramp. Pretty amazing. Apparently a few camp sites in national park are completely gone along with a few camper trailers and maybe a few cars as well.

only a couple of hours either side
Probably around high it will be ok. Its just what happens to the bank over the next few days. A few strong sw windy arvos and it may be only useable at very high tide. To get a perspective of what happened, their is a big boulder off the groyne about 100m from the boat ramp sticking out of the sand bank. The creek was flowing 30m wide with 6-7 foot standing waves . Its deep just to the north of the ramp so they should be able to make it useable but to fix it is another thing. A few days with a loader isnt gonna fix it this time.

Its all good. but the gulf looks like chocolate and its pretty dirty on the west side. Lots of junk floating around also. Should clean up in the next few days. Ill get a pic of the ramp, and from the end of the sand bank tomorrow arvo on low tide.

while freezing, sweating, swatting and swearing.

repair
does anyone know if they intend to fix the ramp any time soon. Have to pay 4 grand for accommodation in a couple of weeks and if its not fishable I cant see the point. Going up early June so have a bit of time. Will be watching with interest any reports from exy.
