this discussion has come up a bit lately with a few guys .inteterested to hear peoples thoughts on why particular fish bite best on certain tides? Eg snapper fisherman seem to prefer the incoming and top and bottom of the tide.

I don't particularly think
I don't particularly think any tide fishes better than another from a boat, more so picking the right location to fish a particular tide or right tide to fish a particular location.
I usually like a change of tide or some movement in the water but some spots with strong currents fish better on a dodge (or change of tide) when there is less flow.
beach/rock fishing a different kettle of you know what.

Snapper
For inshore snapper fishing I like to anchor on the east side of a lump with an offshore breeze and low tide just before dawn. As you start fishing (say 3:30am) the tide is going out, taking your burley out across your lump. As the tide slows toward low tide your burley will end up pretty much under your boat, hopefully along with a mob of hungry snapper. So I guess you can use the tide to disperse your burley and then focus the fish to within casting distance.
