Whiting on poppers
Submitted by WODF on Tue, 2009-06-30 15:54.
Seems like an interesting concept. Anybody targeted tings on poppers before? If so, would love to hear what poppers work, what don't or preferred size poppers (40, 50mm?), preferred leader size, water depth and retrieve styles.
Any help appreciated.

I dont understand how an top notch rally Driver in the ARC then becomes a fishing show presenter. He is a great rally Driver and must be a good fisherman to.

hey mate
try get ur hands on a copy of the aug/sept 2008 issue of western angler, its got a write up about big whiting on poppers in the swan. on the cover is a 40cm yellow fin whiting with a green/yellow/orange 35mm river2sea bubble pop in its mouth. it sounds pretty crazy but it does work!

I have heard for that
I have heard for that article that they only caught one or two. Not as easy as they make it seem. On the east coast a fair few people do get them on poppers though (may be subtly different species though).

Thanks guys!
At least the poppers will save me having to constantly re-bait lol and it might just keep the smaller ones away. Can't wait!
Anyone else?

I found an interesting way
I found an interesting way to pop the little bubblepops and the like is to tap the rod with your index finger. Creates a nice little bloop very easily. Using the rod can sometimes rip it out of the water even if you're trying to be gentle. Ecogear (and some others) make small skitter prawns. So you could walk the dog with them or wind at a medium pace and it might work well. You can also get 50mm i think bluescodes for sinking stickbaits. A variety of bream lures might work as well. If all else fails, use gulp 2" worms :p (or some other scented plastics).
Have tried a few times but never caught any so far.

up north it should work a treat
as the water is warmer than down south currently, and most only try here in warmer water when the fish are fired up.
for small poppers they say to use a heavier than normal leader to balance and level the popper.
apart from that just get out and experiment
