Black Mulla

Black Mulla

I headed up to Broome last week for a relaxing break and also if I had time head out with one of the local guides for a fish, well I'm so glad that I did. I've always been keen to try to catch a Black Mulloway and the guide told me that's what we were heading out to chase plus Giant Threadies too. We launched at the ramp then headed south to fish the Roebuck Bay flats on the incoming tide. After a couple of spots catching numerous small Bull Sharks, Blue Nose Salmon and Tea Leaf Trev's we pulled up on a new spot which was pretty quiet, so quiet no one had a touch. After a few minutes while standing around having a yarn I decided to check my bait seeing as there was no action when as soon as I started pulling in my reel screamed off. After 25 minutes of screaming runs and a merry old dance around the boat and chasing it with the boat I had landed my first Black Mulloway and wasn't I pumped it was a horse even the guide said he hadn't seen many that size. It weighed in spot on 20kg and on the 1.2m mark and I landed it on 15kg gear too. It was the only good fish landed and it definitely is a fish to remember and I just had to share it with all the Fishwrecked crew.

As soon as i saw the photo in the corner of my eye on the fishwrecked page i had a sneaking suspicion that you caught this fish in broome. I have gone out 5 times with another member to chase this fish so far it cost us 5 empty trips and a set of keys. Gongrats on the great fish mate!
