Apart from the possibility that they are of different gender (the males do tend to be heavier) it just goes to show how slowly these fish mature. They seem to get to about 30cm reasonably quickly, but then they slow right down, and 1cm difference can represent a couple of years' growth.

big difference, could it be one is male and one is female. from memory the male were always a more solid fish

Incidentally it was my first bream (37cm) I'm cursed with them
