Eaten vac sealed crabs

Eaten vac sealed crabs

Well finalyy Bob got the vac sealed crabs out and his opinion is that they didn't loose much in the way of taste, texture or flavour, trial was successful.  The only thing I think we'll do is wrap the cooked crab (whole) in grease proof paper as the one we split in half did put a minute hole in the bag and on inspection the vac had gone out of the bag (2 weeks ago) so Bob ate that one.  But all in all good trial and we'll be doing it next time we get a haul of crabs.

When we where in Leeman last bought a whole sheep

Sun, 2009-05-24 10:47

(hogget,) the farmer cut it up for us,  boy the vac machine worked overtime, and didn't miss a beat, except I run out of bags, lucky we didn't get many fish otherwise my name would have been mud.  I'm going to experiement with the clip lock bags, and see how they vac seal.  The down side to the vac machine is the bags are quite expensive, but I have heard of the Butcher supplier in Canningvale sells them cheaper than the Good Guys (bags that is)

I've forgotten the name of the supplier, can somebody let me know please. thank you

Good to know about the fish wings

Sun, 2009-05-24 10:42

as we are going to do the same, we don't like the wings but we have friends that love the wings, so yes we'll be vac sealing the wings also.  The heads we also bring home for our Singaporean friends that in return give us delicious sambals that they make.

Did you freeze the cooked vac crabs or just leave them in the fridge?

Rosco Bob steamed the crabs then we vac

Sun, 2009-05-24 10:40

sealed them and kept them in the freezer, roughly just under 2 months.  We have friends that take all the meat (cooked) out then freeze the meat (no vac seal) in chinese take away containers and she says the meat is ok when defrosted.

He steams the crabs for me as I don't like them boiled, I find steaming them in their own juices (upside down in the steamer) the meat is sooo sweet compared to boiling.  I only like a couple in one sitting so thats why we thought of doing a trial with the cooked vac sealed crab as you don't want to waste any crab, even though the dog will kill you for crab meat.
