First Barra

First Barra

Yesterday I headed down to Hinchenbrook seaking my first ever barramundi. I had never cast an overhead before, and as expected I had a few bird's nexts and my casts either ended up in a mangrove tree or five metres to short. After half an hour or so, and much laughing, I had it wayed off, sort off. About an hour into it I had my first hook up but dropped it shortly after. It took about another hour before I came up solid again and this time the lure stuck. Having never caught a barra before I wasn't prepared for it to jump so high. It launched itself about five foot out of the water and unfortunately it shook the hook. It was a good fish, between 60 and 70. About three casts later I came up solid again and this time I jammed the rod tip down into the water and controlled the fish a little better than previously. It was a thing of beauty when it made it to the net, measuring 74cm on the brag mat. Eating it for dinner tonight. My first barra on my first attempt at getting one. If only all fishing was this easy.

Cheers Mate. Loving it for sure. But if Perth/WA is reality I'm happy with that. Looking forward to it.
