That is nice!
What size Honda's? 150? 175? 200? 225?
What size fuel tanks?
How fast(NM/hr) at WOT?
Schuweet!
Shame they ran outta paint half way! ;0) LOL!!
Give us all the gory details!
Abcat Bayshore boats - whos design?
Have you thought about a hysucat foil for it?

40% less wetted surface area, 40% better top end or 40% fuel savings! ;o)

Cheers!

Had a look today!

Thu, 2006-06-01 20:18

Thanks Dan,

I took a spin around to Bayshore boats today and took a peek at a 7.4 meter cat they are building at the moment. It's a nice solid looking boat!.
I'll get some more details soon I hope, and give one some serious thought, as our second boat!

I'd like to see one set up a little different to what you have in the post above!

I'm thinking of running the hysucat foil as shown in the photo above as well as maybe a pair of the new Suzuki 300hp's 4strokes on jackplates, with low water pickups and cleaver surface piercing props.

I'm looking at something that in the right conditions - might get up n boogey in the 60 - 70 knots range!...

I reckon this surface piercing prop setup with low water pickups and jackplates would allow a lot less gearcarse drag and reduce the draft considerably!

Also - in combination with the inverted V Hysucat foil, a pair of 300 Hp Suzi's canted away from verticle, the way we see the Honda's below mounted, - would in effect vector the thrust of the outboards, such that in turns they invoke the cat to heel into the turn (as distinct from leaning outward as standard cats have a tendency to do)!

I belive a combination of:-

1. 600 Hp of twin surface peircing props.

2. 25 ft of alloy cat

3. Inverted V Hysucat foil

would reduce wetted surface area (hence drag) by up to 40%, combined with the surface piercing props and low water pickups, meaning only the lower half of the gear case in the water - will allow this Abcat vessel to run somewhere near 70 knots!

For long distances in places like Shark bay, on the right days when it's calm - you could be in Marlin country in less than an hour from Denham - and be back at the Denham Arms for a quiet beer - about a half hour ahead of the seabreeze!

Course the dolphins, Dugongs & Turtles are going to have to learn to recognise a new sound not unlike Jethro Clampett at full yodel!
'Duck yer head Granny!'. ;o)

It'd wanna be a good dolphin could ride the bow wave of this lil beauty! ;o)

Reckon any Dugong pokes it's head up for a looksee at that speed is gonna get it's hide shaved closer than any schick or gillette razor can produce!

Propably shell and peel a turtle inside out in 2 seconds flat!!

Gonna have to be on the toes to get the best outta a go fast cat like this without creating mamal carnage on every outing!!

Might wanna hand sharpen the leading edge of that foil to razor sharp if there's any pot ropes and floats about!

Cheers!

Sat, 2006-06-03 18:59

Hey maybe Bayshore could post up a few more of their boat models eh Dan?

They do seem a good bunch a guys to talk too, and some mighty nice boats under construction in there!.

Maybe they could keep us updated with week by week pics of boats in various stages of construction!.

Nuthing like watching a boat building project or two unfold!

Cheers!

Cool

Sun, 2006-06-04 04:18

450 Hp on a 25ft Cat is plenty, so it would be nice to know - what she runs at WOT with what pitch props - to get a handle on how much better she might go with 600 Hp and surface peircing props.

I have a feeling it could go close on 70 knots at WOT which os pretty damn fast for a 25 ft boat!

Granted theres not a lot of days on the WestCoast you can use that much - but - on those days in places like Shark Bay when it's flat - the less time spent travelling = more time fishing! ;o)

70Nm / hour would be way cool!

Cheers!

Dunno.

Guy I know runs 2 surface piercing drives cray boats 1 @ 42 ft & anothu 1 @ 48 ft.

Both use about 1/3rd the average fuel consumption of the rest of the fleet - it's a surprisingly economic way to power a boat!

Ok A pair of 300 Hp SWuzi 4 strokes might drink like fish, BUT, 1 hours running would have you past the end of Dirk Hartog Isl (turtle bay etc) trolling for spanish macs, tuna's and sails / marlin!

I'll see if I can get some numbers from the USA on that 32 alloy fincat with the twin 225's Honda's running the foil...

Cheers!

Finding performance numbers

Sun, 2006-06-04 17:28

Finding any real world performance numbers on the 32 ft alloy finact is tough work.

I did find this from an owner who sea trialed one of the manufacturers models!

Quote:
Once they gave me the wheel, i dropped the hammer on those Suz 250 4 strokes.
55.8 in 4 footers and couldnt even tell i was in any sea at any direction.( following sea, head sea, broad side, quartering).

I'll ask the manufacturers!

Cheers

stumbled across this thread

Fri, 2010-11-26 15:04

stumbled across this thread while llooking up some bayshore boats info (im tempted to get one or similiar), that bayshore abcat at the top of the thread currently belongs to my cousin (unless there's an exact same one out there?)

It handles wind chop and high speed with breeze ... really smooth!  rare to find a boat that eats chop like that thing does.

Shes got twin 225's, beautiful ride

and, of course an F350 superduty to tow it ha ha
