 This is the bare minimum

Wed, 2020-03-25 21:46

This is the bare minimum with social distancing etc. but we all need to go the extra mile to knock this on the head quick. I'm sure anyone with a small business or is a casual worker or who has been laid off lately would agree that this virus needs to be dealt with ASAP so we can all get back to our normal lives. The longer it drags out the more business that will go under, and people will be financially crippled, not to mention the people who will be sick and dying in beds.

Thu, 2020-03-26 14:40

I sat and watched a press conference the other night where a young journalist said that young people were not being communicated to directly about the virus. She said the Government should be doing more to engage with the younger audience. AHHHH Fucking what??? You cant turn on the TV, watch social media or anything and not see what is going on.

And I hate to say this because it makes me sound like a grumpy old man, but, its predominantly the young people who are ignoring the message. These are the same people who insist the old arent listening about climate change, but steadfastly refuse to stop socialising.

This young journalist basically said that young people arent watching the news. PARDON ME. You dont have to watch the news to know what the hell is going on.

Rant not yet over.

I would love to don my PPE and start smacking idiots on the back of the head and tell them to go home.

Its not even slightly difficult yet compared to where it will be. Some have been unemployed for a few weeks. If we act quick (as individuals, not the government) we can see an end in a month or 2. If not, probably 6 months.

 Australian graph went down

Thu, 2020-03-26 14:51

Australian graph went down yesterday, we are nowhere near as bad as other countries. Now that we have closed the boarders I am hopeful things will start heading in the right direction. I'm getting a bit sick of the media coverage. If you listen to them when you step outside your door you will die.

It still amazes me that are uneducated people out there with no idea, borderline tunnel vision and not a molecule between their ears to process a serious situation.

there are uneducated people and there are key board worriers

Thu, 2020-03-26 16:49

but thankfully some of the uneducated people have common sense ..... serious implications are close contacts with others ,  FIFO workers - shop assistants -doctors teachers etc. all travel. corona virus does not discriminate between essential and non essential. heard on tv not all 80 quarantined were complying with 14 day rule

we have decided to  self isolate some 2 weeks back , but would have no issue with father and son - husband & wife  taking the boat out so long as they practised social distancing

 Bring on a total lockdown

Thu, 2020-03-26 17:18

Bring on a total lockdown now, everyone's expecting it and pretty well ready for it. It will take a lot of uncertainty out of the air and hopefully smooth the curve. I can afford a lock down of 3-4 weeks and come out the other side business intact. But fucking around with business uncertainty will screw a lot of us sole traders and bigger commercial businesses.

As mentioned in other thread,

Thu, 2020-03-26 17:48

As mentioned in other thread, I cant see Aus going into full lock down...with the restrictions on travel, gathering of any groups, distancing measures put in place everywhere you go...these which I've just seen at my local news agency and woollies, full news and radio programs full of info explaining this as well...I believe it shouldnt be needed.

We have mass business shut down already, many working from home as well to reduce unknown spread.

We know were it originated, we know hows its coming into the country, our biggest threat is dumb fucks returning from overseas, or who have been in contact and know it disregarding the isolation measures put in place.

As per the chart above Andy...recon we are 30 - 60 days minimum before anything returns close to normal.

 I'm not going to argue

Thu, 2020-03-26 19:59

I'm not going to argue anymore with anyone over this, but just have a think about it, our nurses and doctors are the ones on the front line rite now, they have a high risk of catching this virus while just doing their daily job. They are trying their hardest to save our asses from this, on top of their already busy lives dealing with every day nursing, without them we would be screwed!
And in return, all they ask is that we stay at home unless it's essential, is that seriously too much too ask?

Anyway, I hope you all stay safe out there

OMG

Thu, 2020-03-26 20:41

Really guys - the arrogance and stupidity of some of the folk around here is absolutely nuts. This virus has every chance of doing the same damage to us, as it has to Italy, if we don't do the right thing now. STAY AT HOME - simple, really simple, STAY AT HOME. Fishing is not in any way some sort of critical activity - dead set, the fact folk have to point this out is absolutely crazy. Turn on channel nine and take a look - think of someone other then your selfish self. FFS. Think of the health workers, the million plus of unemployed, and all the small businesses going out of business.

SO whats the safer option?

Fri, 2020-03-27 04:24

 SO whats the safer option?

Go to a shopping centre with hundreds of other people to buy your meat/fish etc

OR

Go out on your boat solo or with the people you are self isolating with & catch a feed of fish?

&/OR head bush & hunt for some feral fair.

I know my preference & I still have to go to work on a mine site with camp accomodation, which I am not complaining about.

The safer option for the comunity is to go to the shops and buy all you need for a week or two.

Unless you can get milk bread and dish washing liquid somewhere west of hillarys 99.99% of fisherman are still going to the shops anyway

Someone said: its safer to go fishing than shops.  I said ther e generally is no "than" its really just an extra trip cos you are going to the shop still anyway. Do you disagree?

For clarity here I wasnt talking about panic buying....I said buy a week or twos worth.  (Which i admit has be hard these last few weeks)Im hoping that now all the nuts have stocked up shops will slowly catch up.

Just trying to have a decent conversation and stay on topic civily.

Crickey how many dishes are you washing that you need to top up on liquid weekly

Yes, we live rural so only real thing we need to stock up on weekly is meat as Dams are that low not looking at buying stock until have sustainable levels in them.

Fri, 2020-03-27 05:48

Wow

I know Andy and he's not flexible enough to look at his belly button. So how can he be self centered ?.

Different regions have got different ways of dealing with this Corona issue. If you're living in a highly populated area yes it's smart idea to keep indoors and avoid crowds. I myself however live in a town with 3-4000 people, social distancing is the norm here. I can't see the issue when I walk out my front door and 400 m later I'm at the Marina on my boat ready to go fishing . No human interaction has taken place and seldom do I get the chance to talk to anyone and catch germs and so forth because there's simply no one around. You're quite happy to go and line up at Coles and Woolies with a potential plethora of human Petri dishes yet you slag people who want to get out into the sunshine with their loved ones  ( unavoidable at the best of times... ) and go fishing.

Different applications for different situations me thinks.

Use common sense people

Andy, please do more stretching exercises in the morning . It will help you to become more self centered.......;)

Fri, 2020-03-27 09:05

 Wow

Suzi q is pretty correct, but a bit agro about it, and picking on Andy???. Not needed at this time as it is time to stand together and fight this bastard hard, and I DO mean as hard as you can fight.

This is the beginning and this a is what I tell my patients:

"Covid advice given:

self isolate like your life depends on it, as it might
no visitors other than family, and then less than 2 at a time is the best option. It is not a time to socialise
hand wash for at least 20 seconds with soap and running water or use hand sanitizer
cough hygiene is very important
if you go go shopping go targetted, dont browse. Also 1 at a time. Try to touch only what you must
try and stay as fit as possible in this time following isolation and social distancing"

And I do believe that we will go into lockdown at some stage. Not trying to panic everyone, but it worked in China, and unless the curve flattens we will need to get a lot more serious and end this sooner.
I would rather have a short shitty time than a prolonged shitty time.

Stay safe, stay careful and we will all see each other at the other end. The other choice is stark but a few of us on here wont if we dont do this NOW. Think about it or look at the US, Italy etc. We should learn from them, not follow them.
Doc

Wordometer seems quite accurate.....I think....they get data from WHO.  Not sure if exact numbers are right but seems to be close.

health australia is as accurate as it gets

But pkease be aware both these sites update data more than daily so looking at a figure that says xxx more cases or deaths etc does necessarily mean its the last 24 hours.

Just check out when it was last updated

Backpackers

Sat, 2020-03-28 19:08

Have had heaps of grey nomads through the roadhouse, some still insisting on heading north to "self isolate" at out of the way places where they normally head to each year regardless of being told they were shut. Doesn't affect me is the usual reply.

The backpackers are another thing, nearly all have time left on their visa, not enough money to fly home and look like losing thousands of dollars on the cars they have bought for their visit. Most cannot understand the news broadcasted warnings and restrictions and get angry when you try to inform them on what could be their best and only option
