Great collection of poppers and knifes there Jay - that detailed list will come in handy! Do you have any stand out favourities for species, conditions etc?

G'day Colin, large cup face

Sat, 2008-06-28 10:18

G'day Colin, large cup face poppers like the Cuberas are probably the easiest to work and suit most conditions. I like them quite a bit. The Craftbaits are an AWESOME popper, pictures just don't do them justice. You really need to see one in the flesh in order to appreciate just how good they are. At around $85-100 a pop they're not cheap though.

Good info jay!

Cheers Jay. I've got a cupple of poppers in my kit - nothing fancy though! Just been waiting on the right situation. Ouch on the $85-$100! Surprised As you say, you wouldn't want to many of them smashed off!

How long are you going for? With that collection I would say you are in for one hell of a good fishing trip.

Good luck

Jay, what a spot - i fished the Shoals when i was 18 (now 38) - atleast once a month whilst prawn/scampi trawling off the norwest and got absolutely smoked. We used to fish one size, 24kg(mono) on a Butterworth 'exmouth' rod & Daiwa sealine 900. That was heavy back then but with todays tackle it would be fantastic to get back there with the gear your taking and get into the XOS trout/trevs on the inside and the Doggies/Sails etc on the outside.

green with envy, i will get back there one day, - i dont think too many lures will come back though - atleast not from fishing the inside. All the best.

Thanks Moylee, certainly

Sat, 2008-06-28 20:17

Thanks Moylee, certainly want to do a fair bit of lagoon fishing for GT's, trout, red bass etc. Tough country for sure but 100lb braid atleast gives you a fighting chance. Doggies will be the main target on the outside. Can't wait.

New Williamson Poppers

Sat, 2008-11-01 18:29

Hey Jay...

Just spotted your post....a new must have for the collection, I will be taking a couple of these North shortly chasing GTS.

Have heard over at GT Popping.com that they getting lots of hits on them but replace the standard rings and hooks...they are not coping.

I like the standard 300 lb swivels inbuilt into the body of the lure, and the flash foil sides for sunny days will certainly help.

I will be using 130lb Braid tied with 70 turn Bimini Twist connected to about 2 metres of 200lb twisted leader (bungy shock absorber)...tied to 300lb swivel to 300 lb split ring with a 12 inch 200 pound wire trace from the Lure (haywire twist at Lure, and haywire twist to 300 lb swivel, that joins into the 300 pound split ring at the end of the twisted leader section)

Tough !... and ready to tangle

Some info on the New Williamsons over at GT Popping.com at the link.

 Cheers Ray

Nah not really Nealez but I think it's just due to lack of confidence with stickbaits. They are a proven lure though.
