S-Bends Weekend Report

S-Bends Weekend Report

This is one of the Tailor I managed to catch. I have placed a report on my Blog (http://vinceholt.spaces.live.com). Sorry about the external link but I am still trying to work out how to put a decent article here and I will work it out as time permits.Don't forget to comment here!

Cheers, Vince.

I've always heard about the quality fish that come from that stretch, Im looking forward to getting down there myself at some stage, now that I live in Gero. Well done mate.

New to Gero Paully?

I was raised there and always was either in the water or near it somewhere. I think we were the pioneers of Flatrocks surfing.. We always seemed to have it to ourselves and the Walkaway Pub was only 10 mins away!

I find fishing the S-Bends quite taxing as it's pretty rough country and you really have to work it or be extremely lucky. The bottom is lumpy so you need to stay off it. That means a young body for a protracted session..... I use a Patanoster rig with a long gap between the bait and a small spoon sinker. I attach a large champaine cork close to the hook set. I don't seem to lose much gear that way. A star sinker or a gang on the bottom will get you busted off more times than not. The Cod are also a pain as they hit and run for the lumps..

Reports locally suggest great action just south of the Greenough River mouth all the way down. Some nice Mulloway action is happening that's for sure.

I didn't have a proper measure but I estimate around 50-55cms. Both were about the same. The Mulloway were up around 55 to 60 also so just sized. They went back.

I don't doubt it is hard work down there at the bend, still it's something that needs to be done, looking forward to it. What surprised me the most was how many people I know/have talked to, that claim they get the odd dhu of there at certain times of the year.

Dhuies at S-Bends

Mon, 2009-10-19 12:32

The unfortunate part of the whole S-Bend story is that there are 3 popular spots you can't get to by 4x4. Only Quads. That's Fingers, Kingie Holes and Dhuie holes. They are locate on private property. That's why the locals resident at the park keep it to themselves. They are all decked out with custom rigged quads. I guess if it was my area or property I would be the same....

Mate! It's a chance to use the time delay.. You should try it sometimes.. it's not easy LOL. Try balancing a camera on the Esky and getting it focused and then running off into the distance..LOL Never mind the presentation, you just don't have the time. Maybe I should take the dog back to school.
