I dunno, I must be gettinng

I dunno, I must be gettinng soft in my old age, as I feel sad when I see that many beautiful fish knecked at once.......the restricted bag limits in WA certainly limit the take over here and are a great idea in my opinion.

That being said, they are the perfect eating size and would have been very nice on the dinner table indeed. It would appear the pinkie stocks in Victoria are a bit more robust than over here, so can probably withstand the higher bag limits?

I know we all go out to get a feed of fish, and taking one or two each outing is fine, but taking a picture of big fish and releasing it to make more pups certainly needs to be encouraged and congradulated. It has taken me a while to get my head around catch and release, but I am now struggling to kneck big fish.....although the 70 cm  Pinkie the other night was mighty fine on the dinner table....ta Daz!

Good work on the pinkies, great session, I hope you dont take these comments the wrong way, they are meant to be pro-active, not negative.

All good mate, Im share the same view. We only ever take what we need and none of these went to waste. This pic was taken before we started using circle hooks so unfortunately a few got gut hooked and had to be kept regardless. There are alot of people who take advantage of it down here, catching there bag everytime they go out. We only usually take fish when the freezer is empty or if the  fish cant be released.

In regards to the snapper down here, every year is getting better and better. We have a more relaxed size and bag limit to WA but it has been made tougher in the last few years. I think our tally was abut 84 fish from 6 days out last year. Wouldnt mind seeing the size made a little bigger so we could get a few more fish around the 10kg mark, dont see to many that size down here.

Interesting what constitues a bag differs so much around Australia, and for good reason.

WA is apparently the poorest west-coast fishery in the world. The Leeuwin current that brings down the hot-water species effectively neuters the nutrient flow up from Antartica that other continents get. There is a little current running at the moment called the capes current, its that cold current sneaking up the coast now.

I guess thats why we get a good variety, but such small bag limits.

Defintiely have it better

Defintiely have it better over there in my opinion, both in size and varitey. The fishing calender for us Vics is split into 4 seasons.. Snapper, Squid, Whiting and Tuna (Have to travel though) We get a few salmon and flathead here and there as well but there not that big.
