no barra but plenty o jacks

Decided to go out this morning and stay in one of the local creeks for the low and try for some barra.  The weather man actually got things right for a change and the ride over was pretty good.  Unfortunately i was on my own today, jay was at work and i was hoping to be able to text him a photo of a nice barra just to shit him a little.  Things looked ok, tide, water temp and i managed to get some really good mullet.  Along with the turbo sized mullet there were a lot of smaller fish around so i kept them for a live bait jack session.  I moved up into one of my favourite spots and set out two nice sized livies.  I waited for about 45 minutes with not a single run, so i decided to give it the ass and go for a jack fish in a different section of the system instead.  It wasn't long in the new spot and i caught my first jack, cant remember the size but it went back.  Next hit was a cracker as the fish tried to bury me into the snags, i managed to pull it out with a locked up drag and land a nice 46cm already tagged jack, it was released

46cm jack was already tagged and released
lucky for him he had a tag!

Anyway i got stuck into so many fish after that one, lots of jacks in the 38cm to 42cm range and i decided to keep a couple for tea.

another 40cm Jack
Lots of fish in this size range today, good to see

I caught 26 jacks in this spot in a little over 2 hours, it would be interesting to see if i actually caught any of the fish twice.  They were loving the medium sized live mullet thrown in hard at the snags.

caught 12 or so between this size and 49cm, i caught 26 today in total, great session
one of the smaller jacks from today

i was dropping baits down right next to the boat and feathering the line out to let the mullet drift under snags right beside me, it was great fun and good to see how aggressive these little buggers are

41 cm jack from today
41cm jack , kept him

not long before i went home i threw a bigger livie in at the same snag that produced about 20 or so fish before hand.  As soon as the bait hit the water it got nailed.  This jack went a fair bit harder than the others and almost buried me in the timber.  I managed to scull drag it out in to some open water which gave me half a chance.  I was stoked to see a nice red jack come alongside.  I leader ed it into the boat and although it was tagged i made the call to keep him.  He was great on the dinner plate tonight, it was a new PB for me 49cm.
