Submitted by knothome on Sat, 2008-03-08 08:26.
Does anyone else use VHF ?
I have both radios and we use channel 72 which im sure is a non commercial channel yet while in jurien bay on the weekend were
told to use another channel by a cray factory using the channel, but
we didnt

Anyway i have been trying to find a list of use of marine frequencies
(channels) and havnt come up with a full list of allocations, but have found that 72 is a non commercial channel.
If anyone nows were i can print out a copy of the channel assignments that will be handy.

How good is it but!
I leave on 16 in Onslow, and after making contact switch to another channel, ie 71, 72,73.
Very impressed with the range though, furthest I've been from the ramp so far is 45km's and its still crystal clear talking to some one back at the ramp.

Hi Alfred
you will find a lot more people using it soon if they do get rid of 27mhz like they have been saying they will.

radio course.
why dont you just do a vhf radio course. its illegal to have a vhf radio and use it without a liscence, and if police find it on your boat you will loose the whole thing.
knothome
i have
i have a liscence,if you read the above you will see that im using a channel
for Fishing & Leasure boats and was told it was a working channel and to use another, but the channel is not just for them.
i dont think anyone will loose there boat for using the radio, may get fined and
that would be the ACMA not the police.

Legal
It may be illegal to use a VHF without having completed the proficiency course but it is not illegal to have one onboard without having completed it. The rule is around the illegal use of them not the possesion of one.
