Wanted to buy, Saltiga 6000/6500

I am hooked. After landing my first 30kg+GT i am looking at getting a reel that wil handel the job. The spheros 14000 just doesn't cut it.

I am looking for a Saltiga Z6000gt or a 6500 dogfight if anyone has a second hand one the don't need or use anymore.

If anyone is interested willing to swap a saltiga 40 overhead and cash as i wont need it if i get a spinning reel that will handle jigging aswell.

I am willing to pay up to about $800 or about $300 with the saltiga overhead.

Also if anyone knows where they are on special or there is a sale that would be good. Just can't see myself spending $1200 on a reel at the moment.

Thanks

Would you consider a Stella

Would you consider a Stella Steve? They're going pretty cheap now that the new 08 Stellas are available.

Was looking but i like the high speed of the saltiga 6000GT or dogfight. Used the 6000gt and was the bomb.

Started looking around and found a bit of info on the accurate twinspin 30 and from the reports i have read they are the bomb. 100lb of drag. 250mtrs PE10. WOW. Am looking at one of them as well.

By the way Jay, how does the stella go popping. Is it a pain with the retrieve speed or is it suitable.

Just don't know what to buy at the moment but i do know i need to upgrade my reel and buy a membership to the gym. lol

I find the Stella 20000FA

Sat, 2008-04-26 13:26

I find the Stella 20000FA fine for bloopers (which is what I use most) but when you need a faster retrieve for stick baits and pencils it's pretty hard work.

Eventually I'm going to get an '08 SW18000HG to pop with and keep my 20000FA for deep water jigging only.

You could get the 10000FA which is the high speed version of the 20000FA with a smaller line capacity.

The 10000FA holds enough PE8 for popping but if you plan to double it up as a jigging reel the line capacity might not be satisfactory.

One of the guys I fish with just bought a Twin Spin 30, very nice reel. Definately not as smooth as the Japanese reels but it feels bulletproof.

Haven't seen how it performs on the water yet.

Steve i would stay away from the twinspin have heard mixed reports about them.

Stick with the 6000GT or the Dogfight. I use i 6000GT as you have prob found out by Kasey,  Just grab yourself an extra 6500 spool for more capacity.

Cheers

get a 10000 Steve

Sat, 2008-04-26 17:19

Just get a new 10000 and then you can get a 20,000 spool if you need the extra capacity. I went the other way but I would get a 10000 if I had the choice again - very cheap on EBAY at the moment and according to Nomad and others in the know not much difference between DF and Stella 10000.

at least you could use the accurate as a sinker when it claps out....;-)
I don't like the 'golf ball' handle on the saltiga...feels too small and slippery in my hand...especially when wearing gloves....each to their own i suppose..

you fishing off the beaches or out of the boat Bouttime??

im in exmouth from the 8th - 24 if you have any info that could help me catch a GT that would be great ... or if ya need a deckie for the day that would be awsome (will pay naturally) .. Adam might have to meet up for a beer or fish at some point this time.

im only taking a 4m tinnie so options are limited for me this year.

should have popped more!

looks like i've left my mark stevie ;) i'm keen to come up again soon, very soon...

Stella 10000 is just as good as saltiga 6000gt. Play with the prices. On the other hand, I'm not very confident with the twinspins.

*sigh* Don't do that Ads, they were MINT photos too. =( =(
