sick ground!

Well done Cody on your PB Dhue!

Luke, people often see such good ground as your sounder shows but they often lack fish quantity. I drive over awesome ground when i'm fishing and ignore. The key is to spend more time on spots that are holding fish/more fish. More spots obviously helps and this info is what i do.....works for me!

Good work Cody

That is a nice looking sounder pic, but usually lumps that big hold heaps of those little yellow and black striped fish, which can make the sounder look like its going off! Like Ryan says, the small lumps and flat coral with good fish shapes (individual) is what I look for when chasing Dhuies.
I also usually have a drift on spots that look like they are holding no fish at all, as quite often the good fish are sitting in holes and don't get picked up by the sounder. If its good ground its worth a drift.Wink

Cheers

for me!

I look for fish regardless of the ground, big/small/hard/coral etc......each to their own, i know wetlinners wont drop on lumps without activity and for all the times i've recalibrated myself ie drop on the fishless ground just in case has produced bugger all!

thanks for the info

Sun, 2008-05-04 21:52

thanks for the info guys...taken on board! interestingly that lump is only about 15-20m across....those pics were taken on 2 drifts....

maybe we should start a thread on sounder pics...( yes i know its been done elsewhere..) so we can share our knowledge on what we find works....i would be interested to see what you guys fish on....

on a side note, if you had  a lump marked on your gps, ..( small coral lump 1m high..10 m across...)  and went to fish it, but on arival there was someone else there..would you drive on..or muscle in?? i only ask, as we got into a exchange of words out there.. on a nice bit of ground i have... a guy came and cut in on our drift ( like 10m away).... i gave him a mouthfull..and he claimed to have had the spot marked for years, which may be true, but surely a bit of manners would come in to play???

your thoughts?

If i see a boat in the vicinity, im out of their.  As no worries says, its a big ocean.

Nice fish Cody! Ill put a photo up for ya Luke taken yesterday of a coral lump in

active mode so to speak.  No heavy rock or cracks as yours shows.  We all fish

differently and have different understanding of the bottom which fire at different

times of the year.  Thats fishn!

my take!

Sun, 2008-05-04 22:04

My take Luke, ppl have spots and he may have that spot as mentioned but i would move on for one reason.........."if he see's you (ok Cody hehehe) get a good fish, he'll hit it again or more in the future"

Take off and come back later if need be, i take off when i see a boat heading towards me unless i'm on average ground then it doesn't matter.....more spots again is the key!

First off, congrats to Cody on a PB!

Yeah Luke - I share your frustration, I've got a few spots down here and it's very dissapointing when you see someone on them. As the others have said - best to keep going as Ryan said. As for the chap that cut in on your drift - if it's a smallish spot, that's not on.

On good structure - yeah, again, was given a spot and fished a great looking drop off - zilch! Then drifted off a bit further and bang. If someone's given it to me - it's probably overfished Yell. Still, as Goat said, some spots fire one day and not the next.

Well done Luke your a great skipper, put your crew onto the fish, too bad you cant catch any for yourself Tongue out.I got given a couple of spot out from point peron the other day which where pretty much very close to where ive got a few spots ,but mine were a bit further north, 1nm north ,so pretty much the same ground, when we got there there was another boat out there,we had a look around ,and did a few drift up wind from them ,but we didnt jump infront of their drift. This spot shows up on most maps as a lump ,so its no big secret i got a just size dhuie that i released as i need some good karma for the comp

Start casting lures of various size and if that doesn't work try sinkers. Or a ging and some marbles works a treat.

just let him fish there go to another spot he obviously cant fish if he cant find his own ground.
maybe offer him some mullies for bait as you leave.
