Run 300meters
We have a huge problem with sharks here in S.A. especially in the area of shark nets, the nets kill the big sharks that normal cannibalize on the smaller sharks.
The Sharks Board pulled two great whites out of the nets in one day recently, they cover them up on the boat so as not to upset the tourists, one was 725kg.
I have found that it does not happen as often when trawling, more when you are anchored or bottom bouncing, its almost as if the sharks are wise enough to hang around boats waiting for the action to start.I have taken to quickly starting the motors and letting the fish run for 200-300 meters and this seems to reduce the numbers taken by small/medium sharks. it is also the cost of lures/line/etc it is not funny when you have to re-spool a reel due to loss of 100 meters of line.
For interest, "The Shark Shield" was developed here by the "Natal Sharks Board" and your guys pay a royalty to them.
